Doherty turns to Islam in jail


DRUGGIE jailbird PETE DOHERTY is reading the Koran to get him through his days in the slammer.

The BABYSHAMBLES singer has turned to the Islam holy book after being imprisoned at London’s Wormwood Scrubs.

Potty Pete requested a translation after being put in an isolated cell at the tough prison last week. And the rock junkie is now “lapping it up”.

A pal revealed yesterday: “He’s been reading the Koran since he went into segregation.

“He’s got a lot of Muslim friends and they’ve been on at him for ages to study it. Now he’s on his own he’s got time on his hands to study it.

“I’m surprised how much it has calmed him down as he was very on edge inside. He definitely seems more chilled. He’s lapping it up and really interested in it. I think it’s helping him in there.”

The former LIBERTINES frontman has been having a torrid time since beginning his 14-week sentence for breaching probation by taking drugs.

The Sun revealed he’d been having heroin in prison before lags who gave him drugs on tick threatened to maim him and he was segregated for his own safety.

In the past Pete has also read up on weird cult Scientology after being introduced to it by his then girlfriend NADINE RUDDY.

If Pete ever does think about converting to Islam, he’s going to have to make some radical changes to his outrageous lifestyle.

Maybe he’s yet to get to the bits in the sacred book that rule out alcohol and mind-altering drugs.

Eating any meat which is not prepared the halal way is also banned.

Considering the only food I have ever seen Pete scoff is a Big Mac, I’m not sure what he would plan to eat.


And as Muslims are advised not to wear any tight-fitting clothes, all those skinny jeans would have to go straight down to the charity shop.

And putrid Pete will also have to sort out his disgusting dirty fingernails, as the book guides followers to stay clean and well groomed.

Looks like he’s got a lot of work to do before he nails this one.

Singer Pete Doherty made a riotous return to the stage last night after spending 29 days in jail on drugs-related charges. Leading his band Babyshambles, he celebrated by delivering a well-received set to the sold-out venue, The Forum in Kentish Town, north London.

Doherty, 29, wearing a dapper suit and trilby hat, appeared sober during the performance.
He opened the show, to an enthusiastic crowd, by thanking “everyone who wrote a letter over the last month” while he was in Wormwood Scrubs in west London.
Admitting he was “a bit rusty”, the band performed crowd-pleasers including 'Pipe Down’, 'Delivery’, 'Kilimangiro’ and 'Albion’.

For the audience, many of whom had clamoured to get tickets, Doherty was simply preaching to the converted.
But his lack of vocal power came under scrutiny when he invited folk-rocker Shane MacGowan, 50, to take to the stage to sing 'Dirty Old Town’.
Although Doherty will have been happy with his reception from the packed Forum, he may have been dismayed that old flame Kate Moss decided to stay away.
The 34-year-old model broke up with Doherty last summer. She was said to be “totally disinterested” that he had been jailed.
Doherty, who told musical magazine NME that he had cheated drugs tests shortly before he was jailed, claims to have kicked his drug habit during his sentence. He received a certificate before he left prison for staying clean.
He was jailed for 14 weeks last month for breaking the terms of his suspended sentence for possessing crack cocaine, heroin, cannabis and ketamine.
But his sentenced was halved and a further 18 days deducted under a Government scheme to reduce jail overcrowding.

Its not for just to judge the actions of others thats allahs job. Its our job to guide others if they need our help. Perhaps the matter of fact is when a man has no reason in life finding reason may help. And Islam could do that. Inshallah
