بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
قال تعالى
ثُمَّ اسْتَوَىٰ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ وَهِيَ دُخَانٌ فَقَالَ لَهَا وَلِلْأَرْضِ ائْتِيَا طَوْعًا أَوْ كَرْهًا قَالَتَا أَتَيْنَا طَائِعِينَ
سورة فصلت الآية 11
Thumma istawa ila alssamai wahiya dukhanun faqala laha walilardi itiya tawAAan aw karhan qalata atayna taiAAeena

41:11 (Asad) And [11] He [it is who] applied His design to the skies, which were [yet but] smoke; [12] and He [it is who] said to them and to the earth, “Come [into being], both of you, willingly or unwillingly!” - to which both responded, “We do come in obedience.” [13] -
The above mentioned verse from noble Quran (chapter 54 verse 11 ), describe initial creation of skies which where ( dukhanun)
Which was transalated as smoke. Smoke qualify part of translation, but for me other parts include vapour, gas, hot gas, fume ect
Now look for the coming images of early universe which show clearly the smoky background.
