My husband is doing Eid today in conjunction with his country's observance. He and the kids are at home doing their gifts and I am at work......But as I do think it's funny that he is celebrating in conjunction with the Jewish New Year........haha!!

Assalmo alaikum:

I glad fully announced that there were AUTHENTIC sightings of the Hilal moon in North America on Saturday, August 30, 2008. So inshallah Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated tomorrow Wed, October 1,2008.

Some major Islamic organizations that declared Eid to be tomorrow are:

* ICNA (Islamic Circle of North America) [already announced]

url: [http://www.icna.org/]

* ISNA (Islamic society of North America) [already announced]

URL: [http://www.isna.net/events/Special-Announcement/FCNA-ANNOUNCES-EID-AL-FITR.aspx]

* Chicago Hilal Committee (for all of greater Chicago) Still awaiting for maghrib ...most likely yes

url: [http://www.iieonline.org/chicagohilal/declaration.htm]

* Zaytuna Institute (they said that heard the news of moon sighting but still have to confirm them. They will make final decision at 7.30 pst) url: [http://www.zaytuna.org/]

* Shariah Board of America (the moon is sighted in Florida and Texas) [ALREADY ANNOUNCED]

url: [http://www.shariahboard.org/HomePage.aspx]

* Ulema Council of North America (announced)

And many more...so finally EID MUBARAK to all of you guys. Those of you who celebrated today..EID MUBARAK TO YOU 2...

Furthermore i just want to give some tips regarding EID-UL-FITR

1) Eat sth sweet before you offer salat-e-eid
2) Change your way e.g if you went to masjid from one of the street then on your way back to home come from other street)

Eid Mubarak!

I will be celebrating tomorrow Oct 1st Wednesday Inshallah

My mosque told us it would be today.

Also, I checked the lSNA-(International Society of North America) , ICNA (International Circle of North America) and FCNA (Fiqh Council of North America).

Salam

Speaks his mind...
IN England there was some differences- some accepted the KSA view and did Eid on Tuesday, whereas some went with it being Wednesday 1st Oct.

Generally I have been following my local mosque and they followed Saudi and other parts of the muslim world that also did it on Tuesday.

However, I am becoming more convinced with moonsighting done by astronomical calculations- but only stop at the fact that the sunnah was and is that when a muslim whose character is sound and has healthy eyesight sees the crescent, then ramadan/eid can be observed.

Allah knows best.

And Eid Mubarak to all my bros and sisters around the world.

this eid was very intersting-or better yet very sad-it was sad to see how us muslims each had their eid seperately. it was truly ridiculous.
i dont get it-there is only ONE moon in this universe, so if somebody in china saw the moon then that means that a new month has started. common sense right?!!!

I totally agree maryjo - I don't know what the fatwa is on it, but it only make sense as you mentioned that there is only one moon and if it is sighted then its sighted.
I wonder if we will ever have Eid celebrated universally on the same day
