Insha Allah, little sister. You will have a laptop or access to Internet and keep studying Islam.... Hopefully, Mom will give your Qur'an back after graduation :)

I don't know how to add pretty pictures like Brother Massi and Sister Amina but I do congratulate you from the bottom of my heart, first on choosing Islam and second on making it thru highschool considering so many do not make it that far even in this day and age in this country!

Back to what you said about Mom earlier and Jesus. When she calms down please explain to Mom the following:

-We believe in Jesus and his miracles and we believe he is the Messiah.
-We greet each other just as Jesus did, with Peace be upon you, Assalamu alaikom.
-We wash before we pray just as Jesus did and we put our heads to the floor in submission to God just as Jesus did.
-We follow the true teachings of Jesus and he is one of our beloved prophets, peace be upon him.
-We follow the teachings and ways of Jesus more closely than Christians and one whole chapter out of 114 is called Maryam, after Mary, the beloved mother of Jesus.

We love you little sis and wish you the very best, Insha Allah :)

It is weird that this is at a synagogue for sure! I don't think there is a problem entering a synagogue as long as you do not participate in their rituals as previously stated. I enter a church for interfaith dialogues and dawa and we muslims even choose a corner away from everyone do to our prayers.

Also, for those living in Islamic countries, is the cap and gown for graduation ceremonies limited to Western countries only? I was unaware that there was any connection between cap and gown and religious attire? Just asking.... what are the practises in Islamic countries for graduations from college, etc...? :)

Jazak Allahu Khair

If one goes back to the history, and sees where from the Cap and the gown which is worn in the Graduation cermonies in the west has come from, he will know that it has come from the Thoub ( Worn by muslims in the middle east ) and the cap of muslims.

Many westerners used to come to the muslim lands for learning and seeking knowled during the time when the muslim civilisations was at the highest peak.

These westerners once completing the education used to go back to their countries wearing this dress as it was a sign in those times of a scholarly learnt men.

This dress continued to be worn by the westerners during Graduation cermonies even today. However a bit changed from its original form.
