Health experts from the Association of British Hujjaj (pilgrims) UK ABH a national Hajj/Umrah organization working for the welfare and well-being of Hajj/Umrah pilgrims have issued a stern warning to pilgrims from around the world to take the threat of Coronavirus seriously and make every effort to be aware of precautionary health measures to safeguard their health and well-being prior to their departure.

Hajj pilgrims have always been at high risk due to crowded conditions at ceremonies, accommodation sites and on public transport. The lethal infectious disease Coronavirus has emerged this year as a great threat to pilgrims and has already claimed over 45 lives only in Saudi Arabia. Pilgrims will not be able to perform safe Hajj unless they are fully aware of life-saving vital information about precautionary measures.

Health experts urge the pilgrims that if they develop a significant acute respiratory illness with fever and cough during the performing of their Hajj rituals, they should minimize their contact with others to keep from infecting them, cover their mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing or, if this is not possible, to cough or sneeze into upper sleeves of their clothing, but not their hands, and discard the tissue in the trash after use and wash hands afterwards and seek medical assistance as soon as possible.

British parliamentarian Sir Ahmed of Rotherham has also expressed his concern and strongly urged the health authorities of the relevant governments to focus their efforts towards the guidelines issued by the World Health Organization regarding the effective communication of risk information specifically for Hajj pilgrims.

It details that it is important for countries to use all practical and effective means possible to communicate information on a range of issues before, during and after Umrah and Hajj to all key groups. This includes travellers to Umrah and Hajj, particularly vulnerable groups within this population; public health officials, health care staff responsible for the care of ill pilgrims, public transportation and tourism industries and the general public.

~May Allah swt help, protect and guide all muslims~Amin!

Muslims visit Saudi Arabia's holy cities of Mecca and Medina throughout the year, but this year's prime season falls in October.

That's when pilgrims from around the world travel to the kingdom for the major Hajj. As the pilgrims gather in the country in huge masses, they may suffer from health problems such as infections, respiratory illnesses, and heatstroke.

Iranian pilgrims who travel to Saudi Arabia are not much worried -- as Iran is the only country equipped with hospitals both in Mecca and Medina.

While visiting the Medina hospital, Press TV asked health experts and doctors what should the pilgrims do to stay safe and healthy during the hajj season.

The recent outbreak of a deadly virus in the Middle East called MERS has sparked concerns among many who travel to Saudi Arabia. While scientists continue to find sources of the virus, Saudi authorities say they are optimistic that this October's hajj pilgrimage will pass without any outbreaks of MERS in the country.

Meanwhile, as the weather is extremely hot in Saudi Arabia, there is a serious risk of heatstroke if pilgrims stay outside for long.

(Doctors advise pilgrims to avoid the sun's direct heat by remaining in the shade, going out during evenings and nights, and keeping their bodies cool by drinking water. This will help the pilgrims avoid heatstroke.)
