Heart of Iron

Heart of Iron

My Lord, You know of the tears I withhold,
In hope that my smile will obscure my pain.
But truth be told, my eyes are heavy,
Like a heart of iron with an eroding chain.

My path now set - my steps do fade,
Forgotten by all, but I desire no remembrance.
My freedom encased in the wounds of musk,
When I look in the mirror, I see no resemblance.

The scent of musk envelops me,
As it seeps from its vial and onto my palm.
I only wish that life were as sweet,
And the man in the mirror - his heart were calm.

My Lord, You know of the tears I withhold,
In hope that my smile will obscure my pain.
But truth be told, my eyes are heavy,
Like a heart of iron with an eroding chain.

My heavy heart sways, in the depths of my chest,
But always ceasing when it begins to dream.
The green birds resting on the end of its chain,
As it's core of iron begins to gleam.

For what is to long for in a place that is finite?
In a world, unfair - shall I long for demise?
Everything that my eyes of heaviness see,
Shall erode with destruction when it is time to rise.

My Lord, You know of the tears I withhold,
In hope that my smile will obscure my pain.
But truth be told, my eyes are heavy,
Like a heart of iron with an eroding chain.

Then He directed Himself to the heaven while it was smoke and said to it and to the earth, "Come [into being], willingly or by compulsion." They said, "We have come willingly." Fussilat 11.

Jazakallahu Khayran!
