It's not bad to fear the punishment of Allah (subhana wa ta'ala). Actually it's a must for any believer if he/she wants to keep their heart alive spiritually. I remember Imam Ibn Qayyem Aljawzya (big big scholar from 8th century hejry) saying in a book that faith is like a bird. It's head is love for Allah (subhana wa ta'ala). Fear and hope are its two wings. If the head is chopped (no love for the almighty) the bird (faith) dies. If only one wing is moving, the bird is still alive but can't go to the Almighty. So the two wings should be moving in harmony. If fear reaches its maximum, go for Hope. Read books about the mercy of Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) and how easy He will make it for the believers on the day of judjement. And vice versa. If hope reaches its maximum, like feeling that you'll be forgiven without putting much effort, balance it with fear again. I hope I could help.

The Messenger of Allaah (saw) said:
"When any of you finishes the last tashahhud, he should seek refuge with Allaah from the four things: from the punishment of the Hellfire, from the punishment of the Grave, from the trials of life and death from the evil trials of the Dajjal"

here in Arabic:
” Allahumma inii a’uwdzubika min ‘adzaabi jahannam, wa min ‘adzaabil qabri wa min fitnatil mahyaa wal mamaati wa min tsarri fitnatil masyihid dajjal”.

And from 'Aaishah: from the Prophet (saw), that he used to make supplication in the prayer: "O Allaah! I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the Grave, I seek refuge in You from the trials of the Maseehud-Dajjal, I seek refuge in You from the trials of life and death.O Allaah! I seek refuge in You from debt and sin"

this hadith may help :)

"Allah the Almighty has said: 'O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me, and hope in Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds in the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I shall forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with an earthful of sins and were you then to face Me, without having associated anything with Me, I shall grant you an earthful of pardon.'"

also, hope this one helps... Allah's(SWT) names

Al-Afuww (the Forgiving), al-Ghafoor (the Forgiving), al-Ghaffaar (the All-Forgiving)

The One Who was and is known with the Attribute of Forgiveness. The One Who is described as having Forgiveness and Compassion. Everyone is in dire need of His forgiveness just as they are in dire need of His Mercy and Kindness. Allaah has promised forgiveness to the one who fulfils its conditions, He said,

"and indeed I am All-Forgiving to him who repents, believes, associates none in worship with Me, does righteous deeds and then remains constant in doing them." (20:82)

"Whether you disclose a good deed, or conceal it, or pardon an evil... verily Allaah is the Forgiving, Most Merciful." (4:152)

"And indeed I am the All-Forgiving to him who repents, believes and does righteous deeds and then remains constant in doing them." (20:82)

walaikyumasalm wr wb dear sister Malaikah...am glad u fear the punishment of grave :)...masha Allah! this is a sign of a believer...Allah says -

In that case We would certainly have made you to taste a double
(punishment) in this life and a double (punishment) after death, then you would not have found any helper against Us.
( سورة الإسراء , Al-Isra, Chapter #17, Verse #75)

Allah is your onli helper sister......he is the most merciful too subhan Allah...

let not ur fear overtake ur deeds....

indeed Allah is evil in punishment but then he is Al-haleem(the most forebearing - doesnt hasten in punishment)

Brothers and sisters may correct me if I am wrong but from what I understand from Quran, one of the following 3 things can happen.

1. The person who dies is clearly on the right path like shuhada and the prophets, so that there is no need for a meezan on the day of judgement for them. For such people a life of reward begins right after their death and we are unable to understand the real nature of that life. ( Reference: Quran 2:214 Think not of those who are slain in Allah's way as dead. Nay, they live, finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord; )

2. The person who dies have done both good and bad deeds, so that a meezan on the day of judgement will decide, which part is heavier. Death for such people will be like a sleep until the day of judgement. ( Reference: Quran, Surah YaSin 036.051 The trumpet shall be sounded, when behold! from the sepulchres (men) will rush forth to their Lord! 036.051 They will say: "Ah! Woe unto us! Who hath raised us up from our beds of repose?"... (A voice will say:) "This is what (Allah) Most Gracious had promised. And true was the word of the messengers!" )

3. The person who dies is clearly on the wrong path such that there is no need for a meezan to prove them their falsehood. For such people a kind of punishment begins right after their death. This is what is named as the punishment of the grave.

Dear sister Malaika,

We must all pray to Allah to be from one of saleheen and shuhada (category 1 of the above mail). Normal people like myself might fall into the category 2. We pray to Allah, that none of us falls into the category 3. Fear of Allah is good dear sister but don't let yourself fall into the depression. Just pray to Allah.
