Help needed to end Gaza crisis

Dear friends,

The Israeli blockade of Gaza and war with Hamas hit crisis point this morning, as 350,000 desperate Palestinians poured into Egypt in search of essential supplies.1 The crisis is spinning out of control -- the world must step in to stop the blockade, oversee the opening of borders and help broker the ceasefire which civilians on all sides desperately need. Please click below to sign the emergency petition to the UN, European Union and the Arab League. We'll deliver it when we reach 150,000 signatures -- sign now and forward this email to your friends and family:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/gaza_end_the_siege/9.php?cl=52538480

This isn't about taking sides in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: it's about 1.5 million human beings locked up in Gaza - the biggest prison on earth. The unsustainable blockade must be lifted and the border opened properly, with external monitoring to prevent weapons smuggling.

Israel cites missile attacks on its territory as the reason for the blockade, and they're a serious concern -- but far from stopping the rockets, this siege has punished innocent civilians and fuelled the rage and desperation that drives this conflict. Only a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas can stop the missiles of both sides, a deal that has been floated by Hamas and is already supported by some Israeli cabinet ministers.2

Israel and the US remain committed to the failing policy of blockade, but the UN, European Union and Arab League have yet to take real action on this. A public outcry could push them to step in to end the siege, oversee an open border between Gaza and Egypt, and help broker a ceasefire to save lives on all sides -- sign the petition and we will arrange for high-level advocacy meetings with officials to deliver the petition and lobby for action:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/gaza_end_the_siege/9.php?cl=52538480

The humanitarian crisis of Gaza is only getting worse, as patients die in hospitals for lack of care, and clean drinking water runs low.3 Palestinian militants are still launching missiles at the Israeli town of Sderot, and Israeli missiles claimed at least 36 Palestinian lives last week -- many of them civilian.4

No genuine peace talks will be possible while this crisis continues. In the Israel-Lebanon war of 2006, we saw how global pressure and assistance can stop such a crisis and protect civilians from harm -- we cannot stay silent about the crisis in Gaza. Please add your name now at the link above, and forward this message widely.

With hope and determination,

Ricken, Paul, Galit, Esra’a, Pascal, Ben and the whole Avaaz team

PS In a global interactive poll on the Middle East, tens of thousands of Avaaz members helped to set our direction for this campaign -- addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and achieving a reciprocal ceasefire were each supported by over 90% of respondents:

I thank Allah(swt), that at least the Muslim people were able to help each other in this way. As we know the governments will do nothing to help their own people. Again lets say all together.........ALLAHU AKBAR......................

sign what? Don't u know that the struggle in palastine will be until day of judgment? It will be until dajaal comes and Isaa a.s, who will kill him. It has been foretold by resulullah s.va, and that is when muslims will finally be victorious. All those petitions will not stop the jews, the zionists from killing muslims. What muslims need to do, is turn back to ALlah s.va and leave all the shirk, bidah, inovations and all other thing not related with this deen. Shaykh Hisham Al-Areef, who is the khateeb in masjidul aqsa said that in every town and city there is a grave that people go and visit and make duah there. Then, there are those who do things in the name of islam, who take things in their own hands, such as suicide bombing. They go and kill few jewish civilians (which is haraam) or in other cases, kill themselves and noone else, thus causing more problems and more casualties on the muslim side. This is no jihaad, this is a big problem. This doesnt only make islaam look bad, but puts the stop to dawah, prevents knowledge of this deen to be spread, our scholars get killed or locked up, and weakens the ummah. So, how many petitions did we have to sign to stop the war in iraq and the death of a few millions civilians? The war in iraq and kashmeer? The war in bosnia and kosovo? The war in palestine (which has no end until dajjal comes and gets killed)? The war in chechniya? Instead of signing the petitions, i believe that it is better for the muslims to make duah for their brothers and sisters because this is from sunnah. Ask Allah sva to guide muslims to the right path, to quran and sunnah with the understanding of sahaba. Whoom Allah loves, he gives him the understanding of this deen. And, subhanALlah you are witnesses of all things what people do. who do not have the proper understanding of this deen.

Assalamu Alaykum Warahmatullah,

Surah 36.47 And when they are told, "Spend ye of (the bounties) With which Allah Has provided you, " the Unbelievers say to those who believe: "Shall we then feed those Whom, if Allah had so willed, He would have fed, (Himself)?" - Ye are in nothing but manifest error."

Commentary 3994. To selfish men, the good may make an appeal, and say:
"Look! Allah(swt) has given you wealth, or influence, or knowledge, or talent. Why not spend some of it in charity, i.e., for the good of your fellow-creatures?" But the selfish only think of themselves and laugh such teaching to scorn.

Commentary 3995. They are too full of themselves to have a corner in their hearts for others. "If" they say, "Allah gave them nothing, why should we?"
There is arrogance in this as well as blasphemy: arrogance in thinking that they are favoured because of their merits, and blasphemy in laying the blame of other people's misfortunes on Allah(swt). They further try to turn the tables on the Believers by pretending that the Believers are entirely on a wrong track. They forget that all men are on probation and trial: they hold their gifts on trust: those apparently less favoured, in that they have fewer of this world's goods, may be really more fortunate, because they are learning patience, self-reliance, and the true value of the things ephemeral which is apt to be very much exaggerated in men's eyes.
