I am really confused about the covering of the head in Islam. I cant find anywhere in the Quran where it says about covering the head/hair. It mentions to be modest but not about covering.

I have read that it is more of a tradition than part of Islam.

Can someone help me with this???

Wa alaykum Salam Wa Rahmatullah,

The Meaning of the verse is well known, also there are Hadith which state how women would dress at the time of the Prophet :saw:.

What is required is that you research these issues based on the Quran and authentic Sunnah.

Women must cover there hair and body..... this is the hijab.

This is an interesting story written by a Japanese sister, concerning her journey to wearing hijab:

A View Through Hijab by Khaula Nakata

Here is a good link for more information, and explanation of the verses

So, the Hijab as a covering of the head and body is a part of Islam.
