    Assalamualaikum.

What do you people have to say about the Halal Monitoring Commitee and the Halal Food Authority. In my view, HFA are a fitnah. They are misleading the muslim community, especially with the so called "KFC is halal" thing. Who actually mistakenly ate from a KFC branch which claimed to be halal?

Tell me about it, they are actually leading many astray and when I try telling my friends not to eat from KFC, they don't listen. Instead they question me saying that if KFC is not halal, then how can I be sure Subway's meat is halal.

I don't know if I made sense, but you get the gist of it.

By the way, how can I be sure that subway is halal?

Basically, what HFA believe in is Mechanical slaughter, which is what used to happen for years, but the honourable Ulama later rejected mechanical slaughter due to the flaws which are present in Slaughter houses. These are mainly not reciting Bismillahi Allahuakbar for EVERY chicken that passes the conveyor belt, stunning the chicken at a very high voltage, causing death before even slaughter is made!

HMC is a very respectable organisation that monitor the techniques used to slaughter very closely. They make sure that every chicken is slaughtered Islamically. If you are interested, search HMC in google and read further.

Basically, be very careful about the takeaways you eat from and where you obtain your household chicken/meat from.

Not completely true. They stun the animal before slaughter, please get your facts correct. I`m not HFA advocate, but yaani saying something which they don't do is absolutely wrong.

Yes but stunning is harmful in different ways and it can kill an animal. Just like tasering can kill a human. It's rare but it happens. And when you are talking 500,000 chickens, 10% or 1% is a lot.

Every scholar I've met has not approved stunning, they all accept HMC policies. A new muslim brother contacted HFA over the KFC issue, and if you read the latest HMC newsletter, he mentions how disappointed he was that HFA didn't give convincing replies.

Read this question which someone posed on the chicken issue:

Salaamu 'alaykkum, brother just because you have not met scholars who do approve stunning does not mean that there are no scholars who approve this. In fact the Lajnah al-Daa'imah passed a fatwa that it is permissible...

And with regards to slaughtering an animal in the abattoir, then this is permissible according to the sound opinion and it is also permissible to say Bismillaah/tasmiyyah once...

Now to the actual topic, there is a serious fitnah among brothers and sisters that HFA is haraam etc, and this is seriously wrong. People should do their researches properly and fear Allaah with regards to slandering people. I am not an advocate for HFA, but the fact is a lot of lies about them is going around.

Firstly not all animals are slaughtered mechanically, HFA prefers to use hand slaughter.

Secondly, they recite the tasmiyah on every individual animal/bird and this is part of their guidelines.

Thirdly, they say that it is mandatory that they make sure that NO STUNNING IS ALLOWED TO KILL THE ANIMAL/BIRD PRIOR TO SLAUGHTER. So let us have some husnu ad dhann and take the words of our brothers at HFA. If they say that they make sure, then we as a brother to them should take their word for it, and not go into ghuloo (extremes) and put doubts in ourselves.

I advise everyone to read their guidelines properly before making assumptions or quoting from someone you do not even know.

Here is a copy of their guidelines which was obtained from their site.
    http://www.halalfoodauthority.co.uk/HFA Brief Guidlines for slaughtering.pdf

    Jazakumullaahu khairan, wa salaamu 'alaykkum

P.S They do not do the whole "recorded" tasmiyah.

This post reminded me of the fitnah back in Birmingham on this issue. SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah for the fitnah, SERIOUSLY. Were I currently live there are no halal stores, there nearest ones are 1 1/2 away down the motorway, and even then they are sparse, may have run out of meat when you get there etc. Our choice is to either eat food (obviously not pork) and just ask for forgiveness or save up money and go once a month out to the country, slaughter our own sheep and bring it home to the freezer.....at least then we know its halal if we've diy'd it! But subhanAllah..... I really could munch some fried chicken right now!!!!! Maybe Allah will allow me back to Big Brum one day so I can grub!!!!!

InshaAllah next year we will try and raise some of our own as its really not cost effective to buy our own sheep...... and for tonight.... veggie pasta :)
