Since I have been alive, NASA has changed the name of one planet..Uranus...deicided another planet is not a planet, changed the shape of the Earth..yes..we were taught it was a pear shape...remember the first astronauts did not really make it into deep space...they were orbiting in the upper layers of of the atmosphere..
So your question is very valid and real.
