i dream of hajj

this is actually an article on my website, but i wanted to share it with tti.

we all dream, some dreams we remember, some scare us; but there is a type of dream that we remember that lives with us for the rest of our lives. that dream is known as the beautiful dream.

i have had beautiful dreams before, but none quite like this. i can’t assume that all of my readers know all of the muslim terminologies, but i had a dream i had partaken in hajj. hajj means “ pilgrimage “ to the holy city of Mecca, which lies in what is now current day Saudi Arabia. hajj is a ritual that is obligatory for every muslim that is physically, financially and emotionally stable. the history of the hajj dates back to the times of the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) pbuh.

at hajj you get to see up close with your very own eyes, the house built in honor of Allah. you get to retrace footsteps of the Prophet Ibrahim pbuh, his wife Hagar (RA), and the steps of Muhammad pbuh. it is truly a blessing to take part in it. inshallah, i will be able to someday.

in the dream i suddenly appeared at the kaaba in mecca and was dressed in the sacred ihram garb ( two white pieces of cloth similar to a towel ), beginning the rites of Tawaf ( circling around the kaaba 7 times ) being swept away into crowd of 2 million of Allah swt’s faithful. we then stopped and made salah ( prayers ) and i was completely amazed at how there could be 2 million people praying in unison. before i knew it, when i was done, i saw myself and felt the tiredness of running between the hills of safa and marwah performing the ritual of S’ay. i was then refreshed by the coolness of drinking the holy water from the well of Zam Zam. i was whisked away again to find myself crying at the Mount of Mercy in Arafat as i was making my d’ua ( supplications ) to Allah swt. i was once again taken away to perform the Jamaarat ( symbolic stoning of Satan ) i saw my self throwing the stones at the pillars, with true iman ( faith ) loudly saying Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! that doesn’t end of the hajj rituals, but i’ll never forget waking up as if i was still throwing the stones. a dream like that can only make me say Allahu Akbar ( God is the greatest )
