others who can help in finding 2-7 years old children and 35-55 years old men or women for my case study.

Assalam-o-alaikum:

I hope that all of you are fine. I am having my exams and mashallah they are going very well. But sometimes these Mechanical Engr material flies from the top of my head.lol

One of my paper for psychology (which is not my major class) is due Monday. There are some research or case studies that i have to do. You might think why you didn't did that earlier....so my reply is "We don't get these Papers on time..they gave us these 4-5 days before they are due...its silly isn't it"....

However without taking too much time (since i have two more exams on Monday...one LINEAR ALGEBRA (which is way beyond cal) and Mechanical engr statistic) i would like to tell you about this case studies...

"to use the case study method to think more deeply about the developmental theories of Jean Piaget and Erik Erikson. You will need to find two cases: (1) a person between the ages of 2-7 (e.g., a sibling, relative, neighbor); and (2) a person between the ages of 35-55 (e.g., a parent, relative, or neighbor). Do not use real names when writing about the cases.

According to Piaget, the 2-7 year old falls within the preoperational stage. Test whether your first case fits Piaget’s theory by testing him or her in three areas: (a) reversibility (say: “Johnny, if I have 2 pennies and I find 3 more pennies, I will have 5 pennies. What if I have 5 pennies, and lose 3 pennies. How many pennies will I have left?”); (b) animism (say: “Johnny, is a pet dog alive? What about a tree? Is a tree alive? Okay, is a car alive? Is a rock alive? Is the sun alive?”); (c) conservation (say: “Johnny, listen to this story. Mr. Jones went into a restaurant and ordered a whole pizza for dinner. When the waiter asked if he wanted it cut into 6 or 8 pieces, Mr. Jones said, ‘Oh, you’d better make it 6. I could never eat 8 pieces!’ Johnny, do you think the story was funny? How come?”).

According to Erikson, someone who is between 35-55 years old falls either into Stage 6 (intimacy vs. isolation) or Stage 7 (generativity vs. stagnation). Determine which stage your second case presently is in by determining (a) what is more important to them “finding a soul mate in life” or “producing something of value in life”; and (b) what causes them greater fear “being all alone in life” or “having lived a life without meaning”.

we want you to use the two case studies to write a paper about whether stage theories of development are adequate or inadequate models of cognitive and social development"

DIRECTIONS:

I have interviewed a child who falls within Piaget’s preoperational stage.”

a. Describe the typical preoperational child
b. Compare the competencies of preoperational children with children in the sensorimotor stage and in the concrete operational stage.

“I tested whether my case is typical of a child in the preoperational stage.”

a. Using a fake name, describe how old the child is, how you recruited (found) the child, and what, if any, relationship he or she has to you.
b. Describe how you tested your child and how he or she performed in each of the three areas: (i) reversibility ; (ii) animism ; and (iii) conservation
c. Indicate whether your child is typical or atypical of a preoperational child, using the answers from part 2b to support your decision.

a. Using a fake name, describe how old the adult is, how you recruited the adult, and what, if any, relationship he or she has to you
b. Indicate whether your adult has formed a sense of contributing to the world, or feels that they are lacking a purpose
c. Indicate whether the adult you tested seeks to form a close relationship or instead wishes to keep options open

The only reason i posted is that i have no sibling ages between 2-7 and i cant really go outside and look for babies and adult.
Inshallah i will come back for more details....and inshallah i am optimistic that you brothers and sister will help me

Assalamu alaykum

I'm sorry that you were not really able to get help. I have a a sibling who is within your younger age range, and I would try with him, but he has a fever at the moment.

Even aside from that I was contemplating this - and I do not think it would work well. I've never done a case study but you realise that when you serve as the interviewer - you will notice many important things which perhaps you would need in your paper that we could not perhaps describe. Like if the child was having apparant difficulty understanding, if they gave prompt answers, if they laughed or seemed to comprehend what was being said etc.

Also for the first part - when talking of the numbers, will you simply say it by mouth or indicate with your fingers?

Then later I do not know how you would describe how you found the child or your relation to him / her and you wouldnt have really have tested the child right?

Allah knows best lol...

If you have a masjid nearby maybe you could go there and interview some random people. It may sound strange, but I dont think they would mind if you explained a bit (to the adult anyways).

Sorry for not being much help.

wasalam
