    Wa alaykumus Salam.
Yes I think this should be necessary. After all you are hearing the call to Allah, right? :) You should therefore be respectful towards the adhan.

:salam2: It is permissible for a woman to recite the Qur'an without wearing the Hijab. She is asked to wear the Hijab only at the place where alien men can see her and then she should cover her whole body. Moreover, she is also required to abide by the Hijab while performing the prayers. In the prayers she has to cover whole body, save her face and hands (to wrists).

The adhan isnt a person that you have to show respect by hiding your hair at home! the respect to adhan is by giving attention to the answer of adhan and do dua after azan.

Well, we're all aware of the fact that Hadhrat Fatima tuz-Zahra (R.A.) used to cover her head all the time, so following in her footsteps, I think we should try to keep our heads covered all the time. Moreover, I do think that the call of Allah (Azaan) calls for some respect from our sides, and this is why some people cover their heads. More out of respect than obligation, you know!

    All praise for Allah Alone........

May Allah bless u sister, what a beautiful question you have asked.

Even in my house it's a custom that women cover their head when they hear azan, it more of a cultural thing rather relegious. The women do this only out of respect of Azan. But the sad thing is this practice has been made mandatory in millions of house today and before this moment even i was ignorant of the seriousness of the subject. Womens are even scolded and very strictly oredered to cover their head when the azaan is called.

And indeed while doing so we have done a bidat, thank you so much sister i just dont know how to thank you for bringing this serious issue to my notice. There is no saheeh hadees reagarding the covering of head of Women while azaan.

Women are required by the Qur’an to keep their head covered when other people are present except if they are mahram relatives:

[O Prophet!] tell believing men to restrain their eyes and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. And Allah is well aware of what you do. And tell the believing women to restrain their eyes and to guard their private parts and to display of their finery only that which is apparent by drawing their coverings over their chests. They should not reveal their finery to anyone save their husbands or their fathers or their husbands' fathers or their sons or their husbands' sons or their brothers or their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons or other women of acquaintance or their slaves or male servants lacking in physical needs or children who have no awareness of the hidden aspects of women. [In order not to reveal their finery except which is apparent], they should [also] not stamp their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. Believers turn to Allah in repentance that you may prosper. (24:27-31)
The word Khimar in Arabic is used for a shawl that covers the head.

If a woman is alone or there are just ladies around her or she is reading the Qur’an or hearing the Adhan, then this is not necessary.

May Allah guide us to success.....

:salam2: to tell you the another myth behind this act is: when azan is called shaitan run away, and when he sees a woman hasnt coverd her hair, the shaitan hides himself behind this hair! thats why immediately woman do cover their hair when they hears azan!

This is what i heard from my mother and sister. So its not about respect necessary.

    Astaghfirullah. SUCH a ridiculous concept!!.
I have never heard anything like this (Alhamdulillah).
I assure you, most women i know, cover out of respect. :)

In the end, it's the sister's choice whether she should cover or not. I was merely saying that we should do it out of respect.
I hope you understood my intention.

Brother Sami its seem like you have a very agressive as well as very confuse attitude as far as learning of islam is concerned. My freind plz let me tell you one simple thing, Islam is not based upon what i or you feel should be right or wrong. Islam is based upon the Quran and Sunnah only.

To begin with the thread was about whether a momina should cover her head while Azan. The truth we discover is no as there is no any Saheeh hadees regarding this ruling and yes a momina can also recite Quran as men recite without covering their hair. She can recite quran while sleeping while cooking.....usually at those time their heads are not covered.

Hijab is ordered for sister only when they are in salah......now please dont confuse this with the fact that even in salah they recite Quran.

Or else if you have any Quranic ruling or saheeh hadees where it is said for women to cover their head while reading Quran please in form us.

Again let me tell you one more thing don't mix this subject again with hijab as i said if the lady is alone or in women gathering she can read Quran without her hair being covered.

My freind it's not any kind of competion or debate which we have to win. You would have seen how i have thanked sister for asking this beautiful question as i myself was ignorant of this subject. There is no shame in accepting truth infact we should thank Allah for that.

May Allah guide you to understand and beleive....AAMEEN

    All praise for Allah Alone........

Please find below the Fatwa from the website IslamWeb Fatwa Center..

    Fatwa No. : 85384
Fatwa Title : Wearing Hijab while reciting the Qur'an

    Question

Do we have to wear the Hijab while we reading the Quran in the house If I am in my room alone there is no men there?
    Jazakum Allah Kheiran

    Fatwa

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

It is permissible for a woman to recite the Qur'an without wearing the Hijab. She is asked to wear the Hijab only at the place where alien men can see her and then she should cover her whole body. Moreover, she is also required to abide by the Hijab while performing the prayers. In the prayers she has to cover whole body, save her face and hands (to wrists).
In addition, it is also permissible to read the Qur'an without having Wudu and also while she is menstruating or in post-childbirth bleeding if she does not touch the Qur'an directly. Touching the Qur'an is permissible only for those who are in the state of Taharah (Purification).

    Um...no.

Hijab is mandatory for sisters ALL the time when they are in the presence of non-mahram men. Salah is also included but it's not the only time and place for hijab to be observed.

And uh, brother, regarding your statement about not reciting the Quran during salah....during salah, do we not recite surahs? Surahs from the QURAN? No, it is not obligatory to wear hijab while reciting the Quran but let's not say Quran is not recited during salah.

Actually, I laugh when people do that. I mean it's not out of disrespect or anything but just at how blatant ignorance can be. This action is something that is particularly done by Desi women and yes it is done as a sign of respect. That much is good.

    However...

Many of these women will cover their heads when they hear the adhan and Quran being recited and dua being made. Yet as soon as these things are over, they immediately go back to uncovering their heads. This, dear sister, is also a sign of hypocrisy and I'm sure we all know how dangerous that is.

I was at a wedding recently and most of the females there were not observing hijab. However as soon as the dua began all of these women immediately covered their heads and rebuked others who had not done so. I even saw one woman go so far as to put a napkin on her head because she didn't have anything else to cover it with! Coming from a Pakistani background myself I knew this was a common practice so it wasn't unusual for me to see. However, alhamdulillah after coming so far in my journey of increasing my taqwa, these ignorant actions stood out like neon signs for me.

I'm sorry if anyone's offended and if I'm opening a can of worms here, but in my opinion, this is just ridiculous. I mean, if you really think about it, what's so respectful about these women covering their heads during those moments? I mean if it were that respectful for a woman to cover her head during moments where the adhan or Quran is being recited then wouldn't you want to respect the Creator of those things by covering your head ALL the time? Or is He simply watching us during those moments? It's like a remark a sister once made to me regarding hijab: That like all women should, many of these Muslim women cover themselves during prayer as a sign of respect to their Creator. However, as soon as the prayer is over, these women immediately go back to uncovering themselves in front of men. Now what kind of respect are you showing if you cover yourselves in front of your Creator but uncover yourselves in front of His Creation? You're basically displaying yourself as a sheer hypocrite and as a representative of Islam, NO ONE will take you or your message seriously as a Muslim.

Once again, I apologize if I've gone off on a tangent. Its just that I just attended this wedding a few days ago and I was so angry and disappointed to see that this type of ignorance still reigns supreme even after all the turns this world has made.

In response to your question sister, this idea of covering your head during only those moments is a cultural thing and not a religious one :)

I request you sister to read what i have said again and again as it might make you understand the english sentence i have written. I was refering to Mr Sami and requesting him to not mix the 2 fact of reciting the Quran in Salah and while not in Salah. And no where i have mention that Quran is not recited in salah i dont know from my which sentence you got this Idea.

And reagarding your first paragraph i still dont understand why you are telling me Hijab is mandatory among Non-Mehram of course it is, did i said that it is non-mandatory. I am really confused and just could not figure out what you have understood and what you are saying.

I request you to please read what i have written and even take help from your freind and if i have really said something wrong please help me to correct myself.

PS.: Indeed i have done one mistake which has made you think everything negatively. And that mistake is i have used the word ONLY while talking about hijab in Salah. Well sister the subject was about covering head while azan and as discussion grew and salah and reading of Quran got involved to separate the fact of hijaab among this thing i might have used the word only.

well the topic here is abour covering head when u hear the athan..

if i am in my house with my mahrams..i do not cover my head with anything when i hear the athan..if u do so then it is bi'da..what i know of being a muslim of 2 1/2 years,u are required to answer the athan and read a dua after the athan....there is no such thing as if ur in ur room ,u quickly cover ur heda when u hera the athan..if u hv proof, plz show me from quran or hadith..

and of course covering head or hijab is as hwta is mentione din quran and this totally a different topic....

whenever u recite quran (am not talking about salah) by holding the quran book, there are opinions from Al-Azhar university said u do not need to cover ur awra...but again...think carefully..u are actually reading Allah's message and do u think it is approparite not to cover ur awra?
