Israel, Palestine, and US AID to Israel

Recently I had a discussion with one of my neighbors concerning Palestine and Israel. He made the statement that Israel has "owned" the land that is now Israel and Palestine for over three thousand years. I told him that I didn't think that was correct, but would research it; however, regardless of whether that "fact" was correct or not, I don't like my taxes going to support Israel when children in West Africa are urinating blood because of impurities in their drinking water. I will post the results of my search here. However, here are facts concerning The United State's AID to Israel. If I read it correctly The USA has given Israel over 106 BILLION DOLLARS since 1949! And, my understanding is Israel doesn't have to account for any of its' spending.

The earliest known settlement in Palestine was Jericho which probably dates back to 8000 BCE. The Hebrews established their kingdom around 1000BCE and that kingdom broke into two kingdoms around 950BCE. Palestine has over the centuries since 1000BCE been conquered and by and part of Israel and Judah, Assyrian, Babylonian, Persian, Greek, and Roman Empires as well as the British Empire in modern history.

In 1947 in an attempt to free itself from the hostility in Palestine, Britian turned the problem over to The United Nations. At that time there were nearly 1,100,000 Muslims, 615,000 Jews, and 146,000 Christians living in Palestine.

In 1967, Israel gained possession of The West Bank. The Camp David Accords of 1978 were suppose to bring a peaceful settlement to the issue by Israel's withdrawal from Palestine and self-governing rule by the Arabs. However, the peaceful resolution dissolved as a result of Israel's establishment of Jewish settlements and Israeli-Palestinian Liberation.

In 1993 limited rule was agreed upon of Jericho and the Gaza Strip and that rule implemented in 1994 but by 2000 the attacks by Israel and the resultant suicide bombing by Palestinian made a peaceful resolution impossible.

In 2002 Israel commenced construction of "The Security Barrier". Hostility has continued from that time. Now, in 2010 Israel has begun building settlements in the area in which was agreed to be part of Palestinian Rule.

America continues to provide economic aid in increasing amounts even though the smaller amount once was nearly 40% of Isreal's GPA and now is less than 10%. I don't understand why the American Citizens are silent on this issue. Although there have been acts of terror on the part of both groups. Israel's destruction to Palestine and murder of innocent civilians far outweigh any act of the Palestinians.

People all over our planet are suffering and dying from lack of portable water and nutritious food. Why are we financing a war against Palestine when we could be improving the lives of 10's of millions of people with that money. Obviously, the war barrens and Zionists have more say in The United States than the average citizen . I doubt that the isolationism of The Founding Fathers and Mothers of America could be a reality in today's economic, social, and political environment. But, I for one would like to see The Tax Dollars spent outside The United States supporting endeavors that result in life instead of death. There are some individuals who believe that those behind the curtain are trying to reduce the population of The Earth from its nearly 7 billion to a more sustainable 1/2 billion. The easiest way to stop the effectiveness of those who challenge the power elite is to use the label Conspiracy Theorist. Well, if a conspiracy exists to strip away The Constitutional Rights of Americans and merge the nations into the United Nations than it isn't a theory. And, if conspiracies actually do exist, than those who try to expose them are not Conspiracy Theorist, but Conspiracy Reporters.

The occupation of Palestine and the ethnic cleansing of Palestians is the biggest threat to the world's peace and the longest tragedy of modern times.

One loses complete faith in the justice of today's world when one sees that the ordinary people who protest crimes against humanity in Palestine are put in jail (based on yesterday's news in Britain)

while those in power who destroy nations (such as Bush, Blair, Tzipi Livni, Ehud Barak..) are at large and given protection by civilised? nations.

As about the role of the USA in world politics, based on my limited knowledge at the time, I had great respect for the US as an Afghan because it gathered help for Afghans to fight against Russian occupation.

Since it started the occupation of my country and then Iraq and started to threat yet even more nations with war and occupation (and regime change), it clearly changed my opinion of the USA.

the Israel-plestine issue begins in 1917 with the balfour declaration. it is the most bizare policy statement i have ever seen.

basically it's a promise made by the british to a banker (not the jews) that they will support the zionist cause of a jewish homeland in palestine which back then was under ottomon rule. homeland here means state. This is essentially where the trouble begins as party A tried to secure land for party B seeking support from party B elsewhere; when the land was inhabited by party C and controlled by party D.

party D - turks/ottomons

the existence of state of Israel is a tight slap on the face of the champions of democracy and freedom of choice. However, it serves as a useful reminder for everyone that "might makes right".

Thanks so much for adding to my understanding of this tragedy. I remember hearing that Afghanistan was the Russian's Vietnam, but apparently we here in America neither learned from our history or that of others.

And, I had heard of the Balfour declaration, however, I didn't realize that it was so much earlier than Britain's realization that they had entangled themselves in a situation that could be more of a problem for them than there occupation of India.

I would imagine much of the world sees The United States and Britian two fat men in hammocks relaxing as they are fanned by indigenous residents and served alcohol and tea.

It's a movement started by a freelance American journalist to educate Americans about the injustices of Israel. It has a lot of statistics that make the picture very clear about the realities of the region.

Also, British MP George Galloway speaks a lot about the issue. Maybe you can watch some of his videos on youtube. He has debated a lot of people against the view that you mentioned "Israel owns the land in Palestine and has a right to occupy and expand its settlements".

We do need to make prayers frequently for our brothers and sisters there, but we also need to take actions and make LOTS of efforts as they have been suffering since long ago.

We were only so keen to know the happenings in Palestine every single seconds when the war in Gaza occurred back in Dec 08-Jan 09. Please brothers and sisters, an inch of help, even in your prayers will mean a HUGE thing for our beloved brothers and sisters in Palestine.

I appreciate the link, Brother, and all the posts. I remember like it was yesterday the time the Israeli Military shot kids playing soccer and rocketed an apartment where a young girl was having a birthday party. They said there was a high ranking terrorist in the building. Talk about using a shotgun to kill a fly in a crowd of people, that is the epitome of evil to kill innocent families during weddings and birthday parties in the off chance that there might be a terrorist in your apartment building.

I guess it was in the 50's that Ariel Sharon made his infamous remark about killing the Palestinian women and children because they were the future threat to Zionism.
