Issues about salah (leading, jamaah, riya, etc)

:salam2:

I just wanted to share my concerns and issues about the salah.

1. I don't pray the sunnah prayers regularly (e.g. 2 rakaats after Maghrib), but sometimes when I pray in jamaah, looking at the brothers and sisters praying sunnah made me feel like I should do them too. On the positive side I think this is exactly why we should be in congregation, that we are Alhamdulillah influenced to do a good thing that is the sunnah prayers. But on the other side I feel like I'm doing what I don't normally do just because other people are doing it; in a way I am trying to "fit in". I'm afraid my intention is not straight. Would like your thoughts about this:).

2. I was in a muslim event recently, and I was sad to see that prayers are not maintained seriously. I will inshAllah write some suggestions/advice to the organizers, so please pray that I can give a good and sincere advice without leaving a negative impression.
The event was scheduled about 15 minutes after Maghrib started, but yet there was no accomodation for prayers. I saw a couple of brothers praying before everyone arrived for the event, but seeing that they have already midway into their salah I decided to wait in case other muslims wants to pray.
But there was no schedule set aside for salah; the main organizers was still busy running things and picking up the speaker, etc (they were not in the room). Some sisters asked where they can pray so I offered to pray in jamaah. We ended up praying in the corner of a room. The people who started arriving were surely muslim, but only a few joined us for prayers. I hope they have prayed before they arrived.

Again I was also afraid of the element of riya here. It was so easy to get tempted to have a feeling that I am better than them because I pray; and I do it so that people can see so inshAllah they can join us.

Have you ever had those dilemmas? Especially in prayer since it is recommended to do it in jamaah, therefore you will be praying with others and they can see you.

to Allah we belong
these thoughts are not unusual brother. it happens with many ppl.

i'll give an example. a man married a righteous girl to keep away frm looking at girls, dating, etc. his intention was to seek Allah's pleasure. now suppose they are walking in a mall, and he sees a beautiful woman but he lowers his gaze knowing that his wife is seeing him. but still he does this for Allah's sake and his marriage too was for the pleasure of Allah.

i hope u r getting my point. :) i 've no intention to confuse u.

thats y we are told to be with good muslims so that we also become good ones.but just keep in ur heart that u r doing a good deed only for the sake of Allah. if u feel riya..u can make dua like: O Allah, bear witness that i dislike it. take it away frm me."

regarding salah, its a sad state that second pillar of Islam is not taken properly. we can only pray and make dawah.

may Allah guide us all to His pleasure.
