Is it a bid’ah to say ‘Jumu’ah Mubarakah’?

Question:
Salam..is it a bidah to day jumah mubarak?

Answer:

Assalamu Alaikum

الحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على سيدنا رسول الله وعلى آله وصحبه ومن والاه

All praises belong to Allah Ta’ala. Peace and blessings be upon His Final Prophet Muhammad, His family and companions.

Firstly, I would like to point out that the correct way is to say Jumu’ah Mubarakah (i.e. the word Mubarak should be feminine as the word Jumu’ah is feminine).

To greet someone by saying ‘Jumu’ah Mubarakah’ on Fridays is ghayr mashroo’ (not prescribed in the Shari’ah). It was not practiced by the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم nor His Companions, hence it is not a Sunnah practice.

However, it falls under the general permissibility of greeting (excluding the greetings of other religions), du’a and congratulating, such as saying ‘Taqabbalallah‘ (may Allah accept from you) or ‘Shafakallah‘ (may Allah cure you) etc. It is not said as a form of worship but is usually said as a du’a, i.e. ‘may you enjoy a blessed Jumu’ah.’

There is no specific reward for saying these two specific words, but there may be reward for making du’a for another Muslim. It is unanimously agreed that du’a in any language and wording is permissible (except in cases of prescribed worship such as Salah), so long as it is not made for something impermissible. Hence, there is no harm in saying ‘Jumu’ah Mubarakah’ or ‘Have a great Jumu’ah’ etc.

However, if it is believed to be a Sunnah, or that there is a special virtue/reward for these two specific words, then it will become an innovation.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.

You are making Du'a for another muslim... There is no harm in saying it....

Assalaam walaikum,

Please do a search and I believe we have several older threads that discuss this issue. And if I am not mistake the view is not to encourage saying jumma mubarak.

I read on I believe IslamQA that you CAN say jumuah mubarak, as long as it is not every week. Then it changes from a simple happy greeting to bid'ah.

Feel free to correct me.

Alhamdolillah the hotel at which I am currently staying give me a car + driver. I can use the car as much as I want until I am in California. I was able to find Jummah Place (a hall rented by local brothers) so I asked the driver who happens to be a women, to drive me to there and come back at blah blah time.....:)Now that called a real blessing..
