    Salam aleikum

A MAN racially abused a Muslim woman and demanded she took off her hijab before putting a kitchen knife to her throat.
David Norris, 39, approached Farduja Jama who was with her eight-year-old son in Morton Street, Barton Hill at 9am.
Drunken Norris, who was brandishing a six-inch knife told her: "Take the hijab off. This is England, you are not allowed. Take the hijab off before I stab you."

He then pointed the blade at Miss Jama and put the blade to the left and right of her throat.Drunken Norris, who was brandishing a six-inch knife told her: "Take the hijab off. This is England, you are not allowed. Take the hijab off before I stab you."

Later the same day Norris approached Iqbal Osman who was watching her four-year-old play in Barton Hill Urban Park.
He asked her why she was wearing too many clothes and accused Muslims of "taking over" his country.
He again brandished the knife before leaving.
At Bristol Crown Court Norris, who had been on remand for seven months awaiting sentence, had admitted two counts of religiously aggravated harassment and two counts of possession of a bladed article.
Recorder Nicholas Rowland made Norris, of Canterbury Street, Barton Hill, subject to a two-year community order with two years supervision and a six-month alcohol treatment requirement.
Explaining his decision he said: "The reason I am doing this is so that any sort of repetition of his behaviour or if he fails to comply with the order he will be brought back before this court and the court's hands will not be tied."
Mr Rowland explained that if he gave Norris a suspended prison sentence and he breached it the time he had spent on remand would count towards his time in jail.

On a community order he could jail him for a breach and Norris would have to serve the full term.
Prosecuting, Sam Jones said Norris had committed all offences on September 3 last year.
"Miss Jama was walking to a cash dispenser on Church Road with her eight-year-old child," he said.
"She heard shouting from behind in a loud and angry voice. She then heard 'Off with the hijab.'
"She was then approached by the defendant who was holding a knife in his hand.
"He said 'Take the hijab off. This is England, you are not allowed. Take the hijab off before I stab you.'"
"He then pointed the blade of his knife and put it the left and right side of her neck. It was witnessed by a man in a car who took a photo of the defendant.

"At 12pm a Mrs Osman was watching her four-year old play in the Urban Park in Barton Hill.
"The defendant approached her and asked why she was wearing too many clothes and why she had 'that thing' over her head. He then swore and said: 'Muslim people, you are taking over my country'.
"He produced a knife from within his coat. She grabbed her bag and her child and left quickly."
When Norris was arrested he made worrying comments to officers including: "I'm a killer, that is what I do."
Victim impact statements from both women outlined how they now felt anxious when they left home.
The court heard that Norris had a previous conviction for assault and a public order offence.
Robin Rowland, defending, said Norris had minor mental health issues that when combined with drinking heavily led to unfortunate offending.
He said his client accepted he had a problem with alcohol and wanted to address the issues.
"He does not remember the incident but accepts that it must have been terrifying," Mr Rowland said.
    "He deeply regrets his actions."

Someone said in the comments that he is right, what is wrong with them ! Is not like you are taking anyone`s rights or place; what is this twisted ideea that muslims are one group and community of a country are another group. :astaghfirullah:

    Wa`alaikum salaam warahmatullaah.

As I was reading through this I thought, Hmm--what excuse will his lawyer be using to defend him and......

Of course! It's the typical "He's mentally ill." Not surprised!
And for the record, I think the UK's justice system is bogus. Best place for criminals (in the west) to live as they can get away with anything. Two months in jail for beating up a police officer, two years of 'community service' for terrorizing innocent people, two and a half years for raping poor girls and I haven't seen this yet but I bet they sentence serial killers to probably no more than five years in prison..

Alhamdulillaah though, I'm glad the sisters and their kids are safe.

I think the US is the worse for the justice system. Personally, I knew a woman who had police go into her home, beat her to the ground, and steal all the money from her house and just leave. When she filed a complaint with the Police department, her claim somehow got 'lost' or never received. I know many women who have been raped and police did not even take a moment to investigate the offense, they didn't even take these women to the hospital to be tested or get a rape kit done. They just told the girls it would be best for them to forget that anything happened and just go home, because it is more than likely they wont find the guy who did it. My own mother was robbed at gunpoint down the street from a parked police officer who did nothing to help her, she was in plain sight! A pregnant woman who lived in the apartment above mine with her 2 other children was beaten so bad by her boyfriend, that her children had to come running to my apartment begging me to help their mom. I called the police and the man wasn't even arrested or told to leave, instead the pregnant woman was told to leave with her 2 kids because she tried to defend herself and hit the boyfriend with a pan when he tried to strangle her. The baby in her womb eventually died due to the abuse and the man never saw a day of jail or even arrested for it. All these women I mentioned, we suspect didn't get any help because they were from Mexico, even though they had residency cards.

This world is corrupt! People are targeted all the time because of what makes them 'different' and nothing is done about it!

Really in many places the police is close to useless. For what do they receive payments ?

I had one incident some time ago with a thief and a knife, not bec of hijab but for robbery, the police did great job, he got 10 years in jail, for me and other 2-3 people he approached. In Romania, small country.
From England and US is disappointing the attitude of officers.

    wa alaykum salam,

That is sick. -- Once when my mother was out in town, she was attacked, some man elbowed her in stomach.. and another time, someone pulled her hijab.. I wish I was with her, I would have beat them up.

Sister Hajer, that man got 10 years in prison in Romania? for the robbery? Or also past offences? -- in UK, murderers and rapists do not even get 10 years!

The man i was speaking about got 10 years for robbery and use of knife for intimidation on...i think 3 more victims beside me. He had also antecedents and experience of jail, at the age 27 only. He was recently out and the police was following him to see his actions. And they saw and acted just.
The crime rate is low in Romania on global scale, but i did heard about some isolated cases of hijaby women being bullied. Still safer than what i hear from UK, US, France etc.

I really hope people will get over this hate, i dont know what to think anymore. On what side there is a huge number of reverts and even many non-muslim are very open towards islam, on other side many ignorant people who act in such savage way attacking women.
I would advice hijaby to keep some pepper spray in the bag.

    Salam

That's debatable... I personally haven't heard of people's reports being ignored. And I don't about the others but the Muslim communities here in the US, we're in good hands as far as I know, thanks to CAIR, alhamdulillaah.

Spoken like a true gentlemen, maashaa'Allaah! Can't say the same for some of the Muslim brothers here. I personally had two brothers, on two different occasions come up to me and ask if I was "okay" after some ignorant drunkards approached me to ask if I had bombs on me, among many other things. Like seriously, weren't you the ones standing there the whole time? Cowards!

By the way, you should buy your mom a pepper spray and those screaming alarms. I hear they're very effective. This police officer lady recommended them to me!

I am from the Southwest US. I think this truly makes a difference especially with all the immigration laws that were being past, anyone that looks like an illegal immigrant (brown skinned) is pretty much targeted. I know that within the communities and the safety of the community many muslims live without harassment, but for people like me who aren't exactly part of a community and living in those areas that police say are "problem areas" there isnt much help and police don't really care. The 'good' cops are sent to the higher income areas while the cops that are problematic get circulated to my area. Police departments can trade officers like sports teams trade players :) Some of my step cousins' fathers were cops in better places and they explained to me why my town had cruddy officers.

I always carry a knife just in case some wild, ignorant person tries to attack me. The first day I ever wore hijab I was attacked and the man pulled my hijab off in a huge crowded plaza. No one even bothered to stop the guy and I heard several people say 'good job' and 'thank god'. It is really depressing.

Awh, ukhty. That's terrible! I know about how sometimes the law enforcements can be just as bad at everyone else. It's disgusting. Can't you find a way to move out of those "problem areas"?

And sorry to hear about your hijaab being pulled off. At least you didn't get jumped, Alhamdulillaah. I personally know two hijaabi/niqaabi sisters that have been beaten to the ground by some ignorant fools.

I don't think I'd ever be able to use a knife even i do carry one around...you're way more brave than I am! :)

There are different kinds of pepper spray, some are legal for animals like dogs and illegal for humans, but i would use it any way.
    Not sure about UK.
May Allah protect us and increase the number of muslims all over the world.

    Koke, that picture is hilarious!

Alhamdulillah, I've had no such experiences, but others in my family have. In fact, I've had it the complete opposite, where, after Maghrib, my father and I were coming home. He was seated in the car and I was putting the remainder shopping in the boot, and I could see a group of boys approaching our car, with their eyes fixed on my father. I noticed they were determined to do something, and they were saying a lot under their clenched teeth, fragmented speech which sounded like swearing. I walked towards the passenger seat where my father was seated and gave them, I don't know, some nasty looks, which made them say: "Oh we weren't telling you, you're cool, you're good" ... And my response was (so random, so angered, so stupid now that I think about it): "What right do you have to swear at my father?" They were stunned. And what I said next was even more stupid: "What, are you surprised I am speaking English?" At least, they were off.

My brain freezes sometimes, and my tongue, even worse, almost as if it's tied with knots that, in the process of opening, I blurt something out ...

Sometimes confronting our bullies scares them off. Many people dont expect someone to tell them something. Good job sis!
