The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Whoever attributes to me words that I did not say, let him take his place in Hell.” [Bukhari]
Lying about the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) is not like lying about anyone else. Since all that Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) communicated to us was conveyed to us through Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam), lying about him is the same as lying about what Allah said. Attributing to the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) something that he did not say, do, or approve of, is the same as attempting to change the message of Islam. This is one of the sins for which Allah has promised Hell. May He (subhana wa ta’ala) save us from it.
