:salam2: i have a question about something has been bothering me. in my profession which is pharmacy management. many times i am able to pray at work, but since i'm the boss i constantly have my workers calling me or customers call me. so many times while i am in salat i get interrupted. when i am able to i am only able to because i have other management that can take over while i make salat. but most of the time i don't have that coverage and i have missed prayers. what i have been doing is lying to my workers telling them if anyone comes tell them that i'm using the restroom. my workers don't even know that i'm lying and really making salah instead. my company believes its bad customer service for me to leave customers waiting. is it wrong for me to lie in order for me to make salah?

i do not think that it is okay to lie... you are in management right? you should tell them that you need the time to pray... they can't fire you that would be religous discrimination.

and as far as melissa goes, you should just tell them you are praying and need some time alone.

being honest is the best answer to everything!

:salam2:

You should look at the company policies regarding religion observation and ask if you could have 5minutes to perform your prayers without any interruption..I’m sure they will understand most companies don’t have problem with that it’s a matter of you being honest about it. Besides if you are worried too much about the rights of the customers over you,,what about the right of Allah over His servants?

Put Allah first and let everything else take care of itself inshallah

AssalaamuAlaikum WRWB,

Brother,
I think the kind of action is not will not be considered good. Sorry for this harsh statement, but even nonMuslims have developed a sense about how evil is telling lies.

While you were in a nonMuslim environment, it was your duty to make people notice that "you are DIFFERENT" , you should had been a source of inspiration for your fellows that you are a Muslim.

Secondly, its not essential to tell the customers that you are in restroom or offering prayer. Just simply pass on the message that you are "Busy for 5 minutes". Thats it. I think you can at least offer Fardh prayer in 5 to 10 minutes maximum. This way, you wont be telling them lies.
After all, it is a kind of shameful thing that you tell customers that you stay half of your time in restrooms.

I wonder, if people were telling their fellows about washrooms, then how did Islam spread? How nonMuslims got inspiration from Muslims?

The first percepition of many nonMuslims in the history was that:

1- They observed a Muslim, then they thought he is odd/different.
2- They felt awkward, why does he pray 5 times, or why does he do certain things the certain way.
3- This strange perception about that Muslim caused them to be curious to know what is actually that faith he has, that he leaves anything just to praise his God, what kid of God is that this Muslim person is so much dedicated about?
4- This curiosity or strange feeling motivates the people around that Muslim to study about Islam. (what is Islam OR what the heck is that religion which makes this guy so much dedicated).
5- They study Islam.
6- Many of them find truth.

Why the heck will anybody get inspiration from the character of Muslims if Muslims themselves are "NO DIFFERENT"???

my problem isn't the workers, but it's the customers that become impatient and angry.

i wasn't lying because i'm embarassed of islam. it's just that many people aren't understanding. people aren't interested in me fulfilling my prayer obligations. they want to get their things and go. many of times they need me to do that and people were angry with me and told me it's not fair to them. i know my obligations to islam come first. but no one questions or objects to me using the restroom.
see my company has no problem with me praying, they're just concerned that they don't know how to explain things to the customer.

see my company has no problem with me praying, they're just concerned that they don't know how to explain things to the customer.

AssalaamuAlaikum,

I feel very sorry if you are offended. But again, my comment was in the context of how much "a lie" is disliked. In such a context, many nonMuslims also wont like "lying".

Telling others how evil a lie can be, does not mean that I am some Pious Islamic scholar telling you something to do in an Insulting way.
I myself am a sinful person and I consider that I should also follow the same character which I mentioned to be good.

I also understand that your telling lie to the fellows is not in "bad intension" but in order to avoid them think bad about Islam. But my point is that, you dont have to feel so much "excusing". Have tawakkal on Allah and tell your fellows you are going to pray for 5 to 7 minutes and tell them to inform customers that you are busy for next 5 minutes etc.

That wont be a lie and that will justify you also.
And again, my message to you was not a hate-derived message but what should be followed actually in general for all Muslims. That is why I posted my message as a new thread, not to point at you personally.

In that last scenario, if your company objects, then question them if you stay in washroom for 15 minutes, then it is your right? while you pray for 5 minutes then it is awkward?
I hope they will get satisfied if you talk with them politely, but put on your argument too.

AssalaamuAlaikum,

I have one more suggestion.

Is it possible that you try to reduce the calls of customers directly to you as boss? I mean, why every other customer start calling "boss"?? Are the people under you not capable to handle most of customers by themselves?

One more thing, you can have one person under you appointed as assistance manager etc. (I hope there must be one). Then ask the workers under you to direct the customers to that "assitant manager or whatever". In that, you will at least get 5 minutes for prayer.

I hope there must be a way. :)
