"Our Lord! Forgive me and my parents, and (all) the believers on the Day when the reckoning will be established." 14:41

When our parents have departed from this world, we as their heirs, are to plead with Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala to forgive them their sins. Once they have departed, our parents only have their offspring to plead their case to Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala. The above quote is from Ibrahim (pbuh) whose parents were idol worshippers and were against Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) as they would not give up their worship of idols and refused to accept monotheism and belief in the One True God Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala.

And We have enjoined on man to be good and dutiful to his parents, but if they strive to make you join with Me (in worship) anything (as a partner) of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not. Unto Me is your return, and I shall tell you what you used to do. 29:8

Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala has ordered us to be dutiful and to obey our parents. However, if they persist in turning us away from worshipping Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala then we have the right to refuse them in obeying this deviance from His religion and follow the laws of Islam.

And We have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and good) to his parents. His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship, and his weaning is in two years give thanks to Me and to your parents, unto Me is the final destination. 31:14

And We have enjoined on man to be dutiful and kind to his parents. His mother bears him with hardship and she brings him forth with hardship, and the bearing of him, and the weaning of him is thirty (30) months, till when he attains full strength and reaches forty years, he says: "My Lord! Grant me the power and ability that I may be grateful for Your Favour which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and that I may do righteous good deeds, such as please You, and make my off-spring good. Truly, I have turned to You in repentance, and truly, I am one of the Muslims (submitting to Your Will)." 46:15

"My Lord! Forgive me, and my parents, and him who enters my home as a believer, and all the believing men and women. And to the Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, and disbelievers, etc.) grant You no increase but destruction!" 71:28

After prayer make du’a to our Lord that He forgives their sins and that He grants them Jannah. Insha’Allah. When they depart from this world they only have their children to remember them and a final chance for them to have their sins expatiated by the supplication of their offspring.
