    Asalamu Aleikum,

I often read about our pakistani brothers and sister marrying their cousins !
But I think Ive read an Hadith which stats that this is forbidden.

So my question: forbidden or not ?
And why has this become a tradition in Pakistan ?

    THANKS
    WASALAM

Ofcourse its not forbidden. The only relative you cannot marry are told by Allah SWT in surah Nisa ayat 23. Just be little careful in deciding what is halal and what is haram, and also advice your friend of the same. May Allah SWT forgive our sins. Ameen

I never heard cousins are forbidden fr marriage in Islam. Which hadith is that? the people u cant marry are those who are yr muhram,,,,,,,,unmarriagble to u. Its personal choice whether u want to marry yr cousin or not, and by the way its not only in pakistan. Its all in the most muslim countries.

Marriage with cousin is not forbidden in Islam. I could be wrong but I don't think it is officially forbidden in any religion.

Some people in India-Pakistan think that since it is not forbidden then it means it is recomended. Well... It is not recommended either, it is just allowed.

    Salaam,
I don't know where you read it but it is incorrect. Furthermore marrying cousins is very common in the middle east, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc., etc., It is not limited to Pakistanis.

it is not forbidden 4 example
hazart ali r.z war married with the doughter of the prophrt hazar fatima r.z and both where family member before thier marrige.
in pakistan the is verly heppend beause every man and women wants to have a partner who can understan him.an other factor is that in pakistan people live in join family system and a unknown girl can not live with the rest of the family.if a person is married with is family member he whould be happy beause the chances of deceivtion should be less.

    Salaams,

Its actually legal to marry your cousin under British Law. Many English/British people dont and think its weird - but its allowed and 50 years ago was quite common too!

its not forbidden in Islam at all

:salam2: hello , did you realized something? when law of Allah is different in some countries this why all this happen. that is why Islam should be under one ruler only so it is easy to make the law and understand it. Look what our prophets do unite the people under Islam. Only one Islam no such thing as your own islam country. learn and think from history for all of us.:wasalam:

Also in Lousiana you can marry your cousin, but not your first cousin. We have lots of issues with children being born with heart defects and all, but that is due to inbreeding(brothers and sisters) :( Mostly the cajun area of Louisiana. I used to help my mom at the camp she volunteered at for kids with heart defects. Most rewarding experience ever.

the funny thing is... it's frowned upon by people in western countries if you marry your cousin, yet it's perfectly OK to commit zina openly... in fact when a teen "scores"... he becomes a man in most western countries...

there are Lebanese, Saudis etc... alot of arabs have a tradition of marrying cousins...

It's not forbidden to marry your cousin... however if it's your personal preference not to, that's a different thing...

    Assalamu aleikum,

Most have been said mashallah and here in africa(kenya) we do marry our cousins and even first cousins there is no harm in it. When people say that if you marry your cousins then you will get heart problems or any sickness thats just a lie. Allah is our creator and he is the one giving us all the sickness and good health.
Christians have that mentality that you cannot marry your cousins but in Quran Allah (s.w) already stated those whom ur not supposed to marry. Please when you read sumthing dont judge first till you make sure and find proof from Quran and the sunnah of the Prophet (s.a.w)

May Allah guide us all the right way!!
Saum maqbool to all inshallah!!! :tti_sister:

The perecentage of Pakistanis having last name Khan would hardly be more than 20%.Those who marry their cousins are also not more than 20%(pushtoons do it in large percentage but amongst others, its not a common practice).

Regarding Khan, its not a family name.Whoever is of Pushtoon origins has his last name as 'Khan'.And pushtoons don't make more than 20% of Pakistan's population. There are very few people other than Pushtoons who have last names Khan(but this Khan is pronounciated in a different way than the 'Khan" in the name of pushtoons & to know how this 2nd khan is pronounciated, you need to know Urdu which is the national language of Pakistan).

And about marrying cousins, its not forbidden in any religion except Hinduism.
