MATERIAL WEALTH

you may think that I have nothing better to do,than write what it throughs my head, but it isn't so,in the sense that I'm a person who lives each day as it comes, and I often thought about a particular matter:the material wealth of many citizen of a place like Dubai. If I'm not wrong it is situated in Saudi arabia.it is maybe one one the richest places in the world. There are enormous skyscrapers, artificial lslands, big supermarkets...Dubai is in possess of petrolium,is it right?from where does it take so much richness?I have nothing in contrary about this, but what really leaves me speechless,is that a major muslim state like Dubai, show all its material wealth, and I feel bad,if I think that their poor brothers of the third world have no clean water to drink.I suppose that muslims don't waste their time in front of mega screens watching a football match:I suppose that they put a thought to the poors too,or not? What can you say about it?Didn't Allah say that the real wealth is in Jannah?

:salam2: sister,

Dubai is in United Arab Emirates.
We have enormous skyscrapers and artificial islands in Dubai but in Dubai many foreigners have invested their money. In dubai we see more foreigners than Dubai nationals. Dubai also look after poor and needy people.

Dubai's Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has been known for his vast charitable donations. On May 19, 2007, he announced plans to give $10bn USD to set up the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, an educational foundation in the Middle East, one of the largest charitable donations in history. Sheikh Mohammed stated that the money is meant to bridge the knowledge gap between the Arab region and the developed world, improving the standard of education and research in the region, developing leadership programs for youth, and stimulating job creation. The announcement was made at the 2007 World Economic Forum in Jordan. His total net worth at present, however, is said to be only $16bn.

One of the Foundation's key initiatives is Bayt Ul Hikma www.baytulhikma.ae

In September 2007, he launched the Dubai Cares campaign to raise money to educate 1 million children in poor countries. The campaign is Dubai's contribution to the U.N. Millennium Development Goals for providing Children's Primary Education to every child by 2015. The amount donated to this campaign has exceeded AED 3.4 billion (Approximately US$ 910 million).

Noor Dubai
In September 3, 2008, Sheikh Mohammad also launched a new Ramadan initiative under the name "Noor Dubai", aiming to help the World Health Organization (WHO) and International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) in achieving its goals outlined in VISION 2020: the Right to Sight Noor Dubai will treat and provide health services to one million people suffering from treatable blindness and visual impairment in developing countries on a local, regional, and international scale.

very good answer, from wher did you get that?maybe I'm so blind that i can't see what Dubai is still doing for poor people, but why don't they invest their wealth to build new hospitals and so on?When the Emir of Dubai came to Italy with a big ship and slept in a 5 stars hotel, then he gave 500 euro to each servant of the restaurant...what i supposed is that there are so many poor people to help, but at the same time there are also those who like to show their wealth,by making great donations...I'm not convinced about the sincere intention of this rich state,to help the poors. Please read surat Al-Maoun and maybe you understand what I meant.
I don't like ostentation,if I make Sadaqa,i make it in secret, big or small one,but I don't tell how much I donated, cause I don't like the others thank me for being generous. Are you sure that in the mind of rich people there is the intention to be rewarded by Allah in Otherlife,or are they making ostentation of their wealth, just because they like the others to tell them how they are generous?!:SMILY259:

:salam2: Sisters,

Despite many of the issues, the Muslim Gulf Countries remain very charitable...Alhamdulillah!

I had been in Dubai for few months, and even during non-ramazaan days Food used to be distributed in the Masjids for poor.

Here in India, I know atleast two Masjids within 3-4 Kms of my house financed and built completely by Gulf Shaykhs. I dont know how many more are there in my City and my Country.

And much of their charity goes un-noticed and without strings attached.

Unlike aid given by Western Countries.
A researcher famously told that for every dollar that US gives in Charity, it gets 1.30 $ back! (in contracts etc)

it's true,Allah knows best their intentions, but in confidence,is there someone of you who lives or simply went there to see how life is?I am too far from there, but in many documentaries i saw that while in dubai the price of water is available to everyone, some kms next to it,there are many poor people who can't feed themselves and the price of water is too high.it's just an opinio, but did Allah want this?maybe it is so,Allah knows best, sorry for my disappointment:shymuslima1:

there are many poor workers, illegal immigrants in dubai who live in atrocious conditions and work long hours for a small salary.

i dont want to mention what many of these rich arabs do in europe and las vegas. All i know is that if the oil wealth was used correctly, there would be no 'poor' person inside the middle east.

im living in United Arab Emirates since 1997 yaani 13years. i have lived 8 years in sharjah and 5 years in Dubai. Many people in U.A.E specially Arabs keep cold water cooler outside their house, its for everyone and we buy 5 gallon drinking water bottle for 6 Dirham, easily affordable.

in Dubai there are some Muslims who pray 5 times a day and after Isha salah they drink Alcohol and sleep then next day get up for fajr Salah :astag:
There are good and bad people in every country :)

it's true,I heard about a casinò in Las Vegas.it's so unjust, cause while America is worring about the amount of nuclear weapons of the other States, there are regions like Gaza which need to be helped, and I never heard that Dubai is sendig humanitariy helps to Gaza or to Iraq.it's like if it lives a life out of time in which everything is perfect and lighty,in which money go out of the trousers of men.
@Ansari:if everyone payd his Zakat, there would be no poor man...it's a dream, but in sh allah it will be realized...if there wasn't the good and the bad on this Dunya, maybe we weren't here to write, cause the first one who made a mistake was just Adam.

good point.

I just cannot understand how there is poverty and unemployment in places like saudia, kuwait and qatr. These are the wealthiest countries in terms of natural resources. Even Pakistan has so many resources and still there are so many poor people. It's just mind boggling.
