Allah, the Exalted, says:

* " Recite (O Muhammad SAW) what has been revealed to you of the Book (the Qur'ân), and perform As-Salât (Iqâmat*!as*!Salât). Verily, As-Salât (the prayer) prevents from Al-Fahshâ' (i.e. great sins of every kind, unlawful sexual intercourse, etc.) and Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief, polytheism, and every kind of evil wicked deed, etc.) and the remembering (praising, etc.) of (you by) Allâh (in front of the angels) is greater indeed [than your remembering (praising, etc.) Allâh in prayers, etc.]. And Allâh knows what you do." (Al-'Ankabut 29:45)

* "Verily, those who recite the Book of Allâh (this Qur'ân), and perform As*!-Salât (Iqâmat*!us-*!Salât), and spend (in charity) out of what We have provided for them, secretly and openly, hope for a (sure) trade gain that will never perish." (Fatir 29) ."That He may pay them their wages in full, and give them (even) more, out of His Grace. Verily! He is Most Forgiving, Most Ready to appreciate (good deeds and to recompense)." (30) "And what We have inspired in you (O Muhammad SAW), of the Book (the Qur'ân), it is the (very) truth [that you (Muhammad SAW) and your followers must act on its instructions], confirming that which was (revealed) before it. Verily! Allâh is indeed All*! Aware, and All*! Seer of His slaves." (31) "Then We gave the Book (the Qur'ân) for inheritance to such of Our slaves whom We chose (the followers of Muhammad SAW). Then of them are some who wrong their own selves, and of them are some who follow a middle course, and of them are some who are, by Allâh's Leave, foremost in good deeds. That (inheritance of the Qur'ân), that is indeed a great grace." (32)" 'Adn (Eden) Paradise (everlasting Gardens) will they enter, therein will they be adorned with bracelets of gold and pearls, and their garments there will be of silk (i.e. in Paradise)."(33) "And they will say: "All the praises and thanks be to Allâh, Who has removed from us (all) grief. Verily, our Lord is indeed Most *!Forgiving, Most Ready to appreciate (good deeds and to recompense)." (34) "Who, out of His Grace, has lodged us in a home that will last forever; there, toil will touch us not, nor weariness will touch us." (Fatir :35)

* "So, when the Qur'ân is recited, listen to it, and be silent that you may receive mercy. [i.e. during the compulsory congregational prayers when the Imâm (of a mosque) is leading the prayer, and also when he is delivering the Friday-prayer Khutbah " (Al-A'raf 7:204)

* "Allâh has sent down the best statement, a Book (this Qur'ân), its parts resembling each other in goodness and truth, oft-repeated. The skins of those who fear their Lord shiver from it (when they recite it or hear it). Then their skin and their heart soften to the remembrance of Allâh. That is the guidance of Allâh. He Guides therewith whom He pleases and whomever Allâh sends astray, for him there is no guide." (Az-Zumar 39:23)

* "And thus We have sent to you (O Muhammad SAW) Ruhan (an Inspiration, and a Mercy) of Our Command. You knew not what is the Book, nor what is Faith? But We have made it (this Qur'ân) a light wherewith We guide whosoever of Our slaves We will. And verily, you (O Muhammad SAW) are indeed guiding (mankind) to the Straight Path (i.e. Allâh's religion of Islâmic Monotheism)." (Ash-Shura 42:52)

* "Had We sent down this Qur'ân on a mountain, you would surely have seen it humbling itself and rending asunder by the fear of Allâh. Such are the parables which We put forward to mankind that they may reflect." (Al-Hashr 59:21)

* "And We send down from the Qur'ân that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe (in Islâmic Monotheism and act on it), and it increases the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers) nothing but loss." (Al-Israa 17:82)

The Messenger of Allaah (PBUH)) says:

* Narrated Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari: The Prophet said, "The example of him (a believer) who recites the Qur'an is like that of a citron which tastes good and smells good. And he (a believer) who does not recite the Qur'an is like a date which is good in taste but has no smell. And the example of a dissolute wicked person who recites the Qur'an is like the Raihana (sweet basil) which smells good but tastes bitter. And the example of a dissolute wicked person who does not recite the Qur'an is like the colocynth which tastes bitter and has no smell." Bukharee

* Narrated 'Uthman: The Prophet said, "The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it." Bukharee

* Narrated Uthman bin Affaan: The Prophet said, "The most superior among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it." Bukharee

* Narrated Jundub: The Prophet said, "Recite (and study) the Quran as long as you agree about its interpretation, but when you have any difference of opinion (as regards its interpretation and meaning) then you should stop reciting it (for the time being)' Bukharee

* Narrated Aisha: The Prophet said, "Such a person as recites the Quran and masters it by heart, will be with the noble righteous scribes (in Heaven). And such a person exerts himself to learn the Quran by heart, and recites it with great difficulty, will have a double reward." Bukharee

* Abu Malik at-Ash'ari reported: The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) said: Cleanliness is half of faith and al-Hamdu Lillaah (Praise be to Allaah) fills the scale, and Subhânallaah (Glory be to Allaah) and al-Hamdu Lillaah (Praise be to Allaah) fill up what is between the heavens and the earth, and prayer is a light, and charity is proof (of one's faith) and endurance is a brightness and the Holy Qur'an is a proof on your behalf or against you. All men go out early in the morning and sell themselves, thereby setting themselves free or destroying themselves." Muslim

* 'A'isha reported Allaah's Messenger (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) (as saying): One who is proficient in the Qur'an is associated with the noble, upright, recording angels; and he who falters in it, and finds it difficult for him, will have a double reward. Muslim

* 'Uqba b. 'Aamir reported: When we were in Suffa, the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) came out and said: Which of you would like to go out every morning to But-han or al-'Aqiq and bring two large she-camels without being guilty of sin or without severing the ties of kinship? We said: Messenger of Allaah, we would like to do it. Upon this he said: Does not one of you go out in the morning to the mosque and teach or recite two verses from the Book of Allaah. the Majestic and Glorious? That is better for him than two she-camels, and three verses are better (than three she-camels). and four verses are better for him than four (she-camels), and than their number in camels. Muslim

* Abu Umama said he heard Allaah's Messenger (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) say: Recite the Qur'an, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for those who recite It. Recite the two bright ones, al-Baqara and Surah Al 'Imran, for on the Day of Resurrection they will come as two clouds or two shades, or two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading for those who recite them. Recite Surah al-Baqara, for to take recourse to it is a blessing and to give it up is a cause of grief, and the Batala (magicians) cannot confront it. (Mu'awiya said: It has been conveyed to me that here Batala means magicians.) Muslim

* An-Nawwas b. Sam'an said he heard the Prophet (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) say: On the Day of Resurrection the Qur'an and those who acted according to it will be brought with Surah al-Baqara and AI 'Imran preceding them. The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) likened them to three things, which I did not forget afterwards. He (the Prophet) likened them to two clouds, or two black canopies with light between them, or like two flocks of birds in ranks pleading for one who recited them. " Muslim

* It has been reported on the authority of Anas b. Malik that some people came to the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) and said to him: Send with us some men who may teach us the Qur'an and the Sunnah. Accordingly, he sent seventy men from the Ansar. They were called the Reciters and among them was my maternal uncle. Haram. They used to recite the Qur'an, discuss and ponder over its meaning at night. In the day they brought water and poured it (in pitchers) in the mosque, collected wood and sold it, and with the sale proceeds bought food for the people of the Suffa and the needy. The Prophet (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) sent the Reciters with these people, but these (treacherous people) fell upon them and killed them before they reached their destination (While dying), they said: O Allaah, convey from us the news to our Prophet that we have met Thee (in a way) that we are pleased with Thee and Thou art pleased with us. (The narrator said): A man attacked Haram (maternal uncle of Anas) ) from behind and smote him with a spear which pierced him. (While dying), Haram said: By the Lord of the Ka'ba, I have met with success. The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) said to his Companions: Your brethren have been slain grid they were saying: O Allaah, convey from us to our Prophet the news that we have met Thee in a way that we are pleased with Thee and Thou art pleased with us" Muslim

* Abu Huraira reported Allaah's Messenger (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) as saying: He who alleviates the suffering of a brother out of the sufferings of the world, Allaah would alleviate his suffering from the sufferings of the Day of Resurrection, and he who finds relief for one who is hard pressed, Allaah would make things easy for him in the Hereafter, and he who conceals (the faults) of a Muslim, Allaah would conceal his faults in the world and in the Hereafter. Allaah is at the back of a servant so long as the servant is at the back of his brother, and he who treads the path in search of knowledge, Allaah would make that path easy, leading to Paradise for him and those persons who assemble in the house among the houses of Allaah (mosques) and recite the Book of Allaah and they learn and teach the Qur'an (among themselves) there would descend upon them the tranquility and mercy would cover them and the angels would surround them and Allaah makes a mention of them in the presence of those near Him, and he who is slow-paced in doing good deeds, his (high) descent does not make him go ahead." Muslim

* Agharr Abi Muslim reported: I bear witness to the fact that both Abu Huraira and Abu Sa'eed Khudri were present when Allaah's Messenger sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) said: The people do not sit but they are surrounded by angels and covered by Mercy, and there descends upon them tranquility as they remember Allaah, and Allaah makes a mention of them to those who are near Him. This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Shu'ba with the same chain of transmitters. " Muslim
