As-salamun Aleykum brothers and sisters. Hope you guys are in the best state of iman and health inshaAllah. I want to share some of my thoughts concerning the state of the ummah. Firstly I am not a scholar (yet :-D) or a student of knowledge with big 3ilm. I am just a regular musimah:hijabi:

Now, I have been thinking about why our ummah is suffering so greatly? Why are muslim lands being occupied? Why are we so passive? Now we have seen the revolutions that are taking place in around the Arab lands and they all call for freedom. I am amazed at their courage and their steadfastness. Alhamdulillah I take it as a good sign Insha’Allah. But take for example Libya. When the muslim citizens screamed for help who came to their "rescue" --> NATO. SubhanaAllah and it was NATO that invaded Iraq and Afghanistan. :astag:

On the other hand, which muslim country would help. I mean really help Libiya. I can't think of 1 wallahi. I know that the state of the ummah has been like this for a long time. My questions are: What does it take for the ummah to be strong and full of dignity like the time of our beloved Nabiy :saw: and the sahaabah and taabi3een?? I hear many shuyuukh say we need to go back to the Quran and Sunnah. I am not saying that I am not satisfied with that answer, but I am searching for a more specified answer like. What can I do or you guys do? Are we waiting for a new Salaahudeen? Should we just be patient or should we act, and in that case what should we do? :(

I’m so confused subhanAllah. And it saddens me that the muslim youth are worrying about the latest fashion or the latest gadgets when our brothers and sisters are in need of help. Sorry for this long message. It was just a stream of thoughts really. Hope it makes sense lol.

Wa alaykum salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

It is indeed frustrating, and the Ummah has a lot to do in order to get back to its glory. We need to focus on ourselves, gaining more knowledge about Islam, acting upon it and thereby becoming better people.

It was Islam that gave the dignity to the Muslims in the first place. The pre-Islamic Arabs were fighting each other, they were full of supersticions and practiced barbaric acts such as burying their female infants alive. Islam changed all of that, eventually uniting them and giving them a great honour. It was Allah the Most High who gave them the great leaders necessary to help push the Ummah into its glorious days. Those leaders understood the value of education and implementing Islam. - Islam opened the doors to the studies of the sciences, history and the arts.

So, we work on ourselves and yes, we do need to have good leaders who work tirelessly for the benefit of the people. These courageous and thoughtful leaders are a blessing from Allah.

I suggest that you read the following articles in the "Ummah in Conflict" section, there are many articles with evidences from the Quran and Sunnah which give light to this problem:

Allah subhana wa ta'ala, said in the Quran,

"Allâh has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practise their religion, that which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islâm). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieved after this, they are the Fâsiqûn (rebellious, disobedient to Allâh)." (An-Nur 24:55)

We have to work firstly on helping ourselves, and those around us in order to be stronger to help others. At the moment, people are extremely selfish. A lot of people focus on their own well-being and will not give their time, money or effort in helping others unless it provides them with some sort of benefit. - A Muslim should do things to help others without desire for worldly rewards, a Muslim should do things for Allah's sake. - There are millions of Muslims, many of them are doctors, engineers and successful businessmen. Yet, are weak due to the lack of the Deen impacting their lives, actions and hearts.

When we believe firmly in Allah the Most High, then we have more faith that Allah will aid us and make us victorious and to triumph over any problem or adversity. This is what helps some to give more money to charity, to take risks such as avoiding the jobs or destinations that cause a person to be more near to unlawful things such as alcohol, usury (riba) or even fornication etc.

Its not even the amount of things people do that makes a difference. The intentions need to be correct. Its important for us to do things for Allah's sake, to learn about Him and to soften our hearts - becoming more humble and wanting to do more for our brothers and sisters around us.

As for the leaders, then Allah the most High will be the One who brings those to leadership. Good leaders are few, and with the state of the Ummah right now, it is going to be difficult for any to emerge. The key to having great leaders is our obedience to Allah subhana wa ta'ala, after all, the leaders come from the people.

" Verily, Allaah does not change people's condition unless they change what is in themselves." (Soorah ar-Ra'd 13:11).

" Verily, Allaah will Most certainly support him who supports His cause; verily, Allaah is Most Powerful and Almighty." (surah al-Hajj 22:40).

This is Allah's promise, that He will support those who are obedient to Him, - those who worship Him alone and strive their uptmost to carry the flag of Islam.

"The promise of Allaah is true. And who is more truthful in speech than Allaah" (Soorah an-Nisaa 4:122).

There are a lot of things that you can do. You can help people to learn more about Islam. You can discuss Islam with the non-Muslims or create materials that can help to dispel misconceptions. Thats why this website was created, helping both the non-Muslims and also Muslims to see what Islam really is about.
