    salam alaykum

“Seek knowledge even if you have to go as far as China” is a false hadeeth
I study in USA. When I go to my University I cover myself with loose clothes and wear hijab. But, still that University is coeducation. I try to avoid talking to Non Mahram but sometimes I have to talk to them.
I want to complete my education here and then want to live in some Islamic country. Is it right for me to study in USA? Does this hadith "Even if u have to go to China to earn knowledge, go" applies to woman too?

    Praise be to Allaah.

With regard to girls studying in these mixed societies and in this corrupt environment, please see the answer to Question # 5384.

With regard to the hadeeth mentioned, “Seek knowledge even if you have to go as far as China, for seeking knowledge is a duty on every Muslim,” Shaykh al-Albaani said in Da’eef al-Jaami’: “(It is) fabricated.” (no. 906).

The proven hadeeth is that which was narrated by Ibn Maajah from the hadeeth of Anas ibn Maalik, who said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim.’” (220. Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Sunan Ibn Maajah. What is meant by knowledge here is knowledge of sharee’ah (Islamic knowledge). Al-Thawri said: “It is the knowledge for which no person has any excuse for not knowing.” And Allaah knows best.

    :wasalam:,

i agree with ur post. want to say few points:

    1. a hadith could be false for one scholar but hasan for another. nobody's perfect.

    2. yes, regarding acquiring knowledge, it basically means "Islamic education". some of us study darvin's theory in the name of knowledge. its foolishness.

    3. studying secular education in needed but not @ cost of Islam. if u go to study in USA, and loose faith in Allah or start enjoying drinking, drugs, girls...whts the use of that education? do we make r life or destroy it?

    4. a woman cant travel alone outside the city. its the opinion of all scholars. though we may dislike it.

    5. the dangers are many when men-women study/work together. yesterday only i read that a muslim gotta crush on a non-muslim guy @ school. and another woman likes her manager @ office.

everything is clear but our conscience is covered by many layers of veil.

I don't like the title of this thread. There is no such thing as Kaffir Land. I don't think that type of a term should be used for any type of land whether it belongs to non-muslims or muslims. Because ultimately all land belongs to God and He gives it to whomsoever He wishes for a time.

wat i meant to say was kaffir run land.......

but then people will still make excuses like this and that........i mean preachers can live there cause their motive is different......but other muslims live there jz for education?....but now most muslim countries provide the same education with a cheaper tag but jz that their name isnt *berkleys* or something so the uni isnt considered that good........

we jz make excuses and more excuses.......

continue to reform for another 30+ years nowadays muslims are saying <--- good excuse or is that the sign of *wahan the prophet Muhammd(saw) told us about?......its quite common sense

if only we would stop lying to ourselves then we will get somewhere

http://islamqa.com/en/ref/21530 <---those living in non-muslim countries wont like that too .........the joys of making excuses so that MAY think we r really smart

watch the vid below.....but then only Allah(swt) can guide whom he wills.......

Whats wrong studying in the USA? I mean besides the fact that some students might want to party and go along the haram side with drugs and alcohol, there is sure to be at least a couple of muslims there.

Im a 19yr old design student and I wish to study in the US someday in one of its design courses. And I think that as long as you stay away from the bad people and mix with the good company is whats good for you.

But in terms of islamic studies I think yes its best to study elsewhere but im sure there are classes to study in your local mosque rite?

As salamu 'alaikkum, brother it is easier to say by tongue than to witness it yourself, though I would not recommend you to witness what is really going on in the west. There is so much evil around you... If you wish to bring your child up as a good boy, then people in his school corrupt him. It is easier to do haram in these countries than Halal. These are countries where a muslim cannot fulfill his obligations properly. Some of the disbelievers are so racist that they want to attack you just for fun, and this just happened around a univeristy in our area. Watch the place your going before you place your foot in it.

    :salam2: Sister,

I would request you to read the following book on the topic of Hijrah.

"A Conclusive Study on the Issue of Hijrah and Separating from the Polytheists "

    By Husayn bin 'Awdah Al-'Awaayishah

    ISBN: 0977752208
    Author: Husayn bin 'Awdah Al-'Awaayishah
    Publisher: Al-Ibaanah Book Publishing (01-Mar-06)
    Pages: 188 Binding: Paperback

    Description from the publisher:

This is a translation of the book “Al-Fasl-ul-Mubeen fee Mas’alat-il-Hijrah wa Mufaaraqat-il-Mushrikeen” [A Conclusive Study on the Issue of Hijrah and Separating from the Polytheists] written by the well-known student of knowledge, Husayn bin ‘Awdah Al-‘Awaayishah. Many of the readers may already be aware of the author due to the large amount of his works that have been translated into the English language. However, this book differs from all of them due to the fact that it consists more of a research on the issue at hand and a relaying of the statements of the scholars from the past on this subject. This is explained well by the author in his introduction, when he says: “So due to Hijrah having the high position and status that it has, I decided to write what I could on it, seeking to voice myself through the words of our past scholars and Fuqahaa, by way of their books on Tafseer, Hadeeth and Fiqh. This was so that the conclusive opinion derived can be based on the upholders of knowledge and so that the resulting view can be from its people.” And he has spoken truthfully as the majority of his work consists of statements of the well-known scholars of the past on Hijrah, while some chapters have been added from the author’s own words to incite the readers and summarize what the scholars have stated. As an added benefit, thirteen appendixes have been placed at the end of the book containing the words of the present day scholars on Hijrah - those who have passed away and those still alive - so as to make this book as comprehensive on the subject as possible. Indeed, this is the first time, according to our observation, that such a book of this magnitude - in that it compiles the statements of the Muslim scholars, past and present - has ever been presented on this subject in the English language. The main reason such a project was undertaken was due to the urgent need for a clarification on this tremendous act of worship since, as the Prophet has foretold us, Islam has and continues to enter every household and area and people are accepting Islam while in the Lands of the Disbelievers. So the questions constantly arise and the discussions grow long on the aspect of Hijrah - is it obligatory or recommended or neither of the two? And the issue has become such that the people have become divided into two sides - one that absolutely mandates it on the people, paying no attention to its guidelines, etiquettes or detailed matters, and another that completely disregards it and considers it as being something abrogated and no longer part of the Religion. However, the true way of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah is that of the middle course, between the two extremities. And this is what is outlined in detail here, such that the scholars, past and present, have spoken elaborately on this subject, clarifying it from every angle. So you will find in their statements a clarification on the rules of Hijrah, the types of Hijrah, the categories of people with regards to it, the definitions of the “Land of Islam” and the “Land of Shirk”, those exempted from Hijrah, the conditions for residing in the Lands of Disbelief, and much more. Adding to the benefit, as stated above, is the words of the scholars of recent and present times, which give the reader remarkable insight into the issues of Hijrah as they apply in modern times, for indeed, even though the basis and rules of Hijrah do not change, its manner and surrounding factors change throughout the course of time. And this is evident in their statements, so refer to them. One may ask why there is a need for so many statements from so many different scholars on the same topic. But one only needs to read their statements to realize the variety and diversity of points of benefit raised by them, all of which serve to support one another and assist the reader in getting a universal understanding of Hijrah and all of its facets. We ask Allah to make this unique effort sincerely for His sake and to make it a means for clarifying the truth regarding this magnificent act of worship to the masses of English-speaking Muslims. Verily, He is the All-Hearer of supplications and the Responder to them.

From the scholars whose words you can read in this book are:
    1. Al-Khattaabee
    2. Ash-Shawkaanee
    3. As-San'aanee
    4. Ibn Taimiyyah

Waalaikum salam. Im sorry brother. I didn't know it was that hard. I have thoughts of going there to study because one of my lecturer that teaches here in Singapore was studying there not long ago. He has good insight on what that school teaches in terms of design. And seeing from his portfolio I thought I could go there to study as well.

    Were you attacked brother Thariq?
