"Adam will say: 'O Allaah! How many are the people of the Fire?' Allaah will reply: 'From every one thousand, take out nine-hundred and ninety-nine'." (Bukhaaree and Muslim)

"Can we really feel secure after reading ahadeeth like this? We need to constantly make dua to Allaah to save our necks from the hellfire! Some of the sahaaba's were given glad tidings of jannah in their lifetime yet they still stood up in the night and wept to Allaah (more than us) begging him to save them from the fire! May Allaah protect us from the naar of jahannam and make us from those who will enter jannah."

This Hadeeth is troubling me abit.Does that mean almost nobody is going to enter Jannah ?

Akhee have good hope in Allah, despairing is kufr.
Actually out of 1000 people of hell fire 1 is a human being rest are the Ya'juj wa Ma'juj(Gog and Magog).
Ya'juj and Ma'juj are large in number and the 999 of them will be hell in comparision to 1 human being.

Bukhaari narrates from Abu Sa'eed that the Prophet (saw) said: Allaah will say, "O Aadam!" Aadam will reply, "I respond to Your call, I am obedient to Your commands, and all good is in Your hands." Then Allaah (swt) will say to Aadam, "Send forth the people of the Fire". Aadam will say, "How many are the people of the Fire?!" Allaah (swt) will say, "Out of every thousand, take nine hundred and ninety-nine". At that time, children's hair will turn grey and every pregnant female will spontaneously abort and you will see the people looking as if they are drunk, although they are not, but Allaah's punishment will be most severe". This speech distressed his Companions and they said, "O Messenger of Allaah (saw), who amongst us will be that man (one in a thousand)?" He said, "Be of good cheer: the thousand will be from Ya'juj and Ma'juj (Gog and Magog) and the one will be from among you". Then he said, "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, I hope that you will be one third of the people of Paradise." We praised and glorified Allaah (swt) and then he said, "By Him in Whose Hand is my soul, I hope that you will be half of the people of paradise, as you are among the nations like a white hair on the hide of a black bull or a round hairless spot on the foreleg of a donkey". (al-Bukhaari, Kitaab ar-Raqaaq, Baab Qawl Allaah Azza wa jalla, innaa zalzalat al-Saa'ah, Shay'un 'Adheem, Fath al-Baari, 11/388; see also Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 4/610, Musnad Ahmad 4/435).

Rasulullah :saw: said 3 days before he passed away a statement whose gist is "Let none of you die ,except having good hope in Allah."

I guess we learn something new everyday. So despairing and being hopeless is really a trait of the kufr?

Insha'Allah, with His infinite mercy, forgiveness and love Allah (SWT) will let us all see each other in Jannah one day.

That is true my brother.
Shaytaan despaired of Allah's mercy and is miserable now,far removed from all good .
Also,it says in Qur'an in the interpretation of the meaning:
O my sons, go and find out about Joseph and his brother and despairs not of relief from Allah . Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people."[12:87]
