Orphans

As salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wabrakatuhu dear brothers and sisters
Me and my friends are planning to start a campaign on collecting funds for orphans. Actually we are in the International Students Union of our university. And It will be mainly based in our university.
The orphanage is a bit far from the city. Last time we collected but it was not so active. (coz I was not there... )
So I hope I would get some insights, advices, suggestions and how to make it succesful by the blessing of Allah Subhanahu Wa Taala.

First of all prayers from the heart for great success in your endeavours for such a worthy cause.

As far as suggestions go who are you approching, is it just within your Uni or across the whole town, city , country?

Regardless, try to get your message to as many people as possible by flyers, annoucements on Uni radio etc. Also you could try to get goodwill from other charities so you can get your campaign on their agendas and therefore reach existing charity givers, Charities are very well organised these days and have huge donor databases, who will inshAllah be more receptive to your efforts.

Also, try to get free ads in newspapers, radio, magazines in return for messages of thanks to these companies on may be a website you can set up for the effort and, or newsletter. In return the companies can use these acts of kindness for marketing and other publicity. Another way to attract rich people/companies is to let them know their donations would be tax deductable, so they can feel good and keep their wallets happy too.

Give different payment options, too, cheque, credit card, online payments. One important thing to facilitate donations is to make giving easy, people are lazy and do not want to fill out long forms, so keep it simple, print some vouchers that can be filled and act as receipts for the donors. Don't just rely on cash.

Anyway, pray the above give you some pointers as to how to proceed and inshAllah pray you raise as much as possible.
