Walaikumu-salaam warahmatullahi wbarakatuh,

Allah wanted so...he ordered the muslims to have not more than four wives. He didn't order our prophet Sallalahu 3alaihi wassalem to divorce his other wives.

So Allah wanted this.

If Allah wants something, we say amana ( we believe) and we obey.

It's clear

Sallamoelaikoem warahmatullahi wbarakatuh,

Only for the Prophet(pbuh)

Salaam,

In Surah 33.50 to 33.52, Allah(swt) speaks directly to the prophet(pbuh)
about his wives. Allah(swt) did not establish any limit to the number of wives
for the prophet(pbuh) in these verses, Allah(swt) has said in verse 33.50, and any believing woman who gives herself to the Prophet if the Prophet wishes to wed her; This is only for you (O Prophet), as a privilege and not
for (all) the believers. Islam is a complete way of life, It covers every aspect
of any question that we might have. SubhanAllah, I love and respect this
religion more everyday. :tti_sister:

Salaam

Bismillaah,:SMILY209:

As-salaamu `alaykum warahmatullaahi wabarakaatuh.

The Messenger sal-Allaahu `alayhi wasallam was the best in fulfilling the commands of the Qur'aan amd abstaining the prohibitions. He was the best of mankind in every aspect, in worship, moderation, fear of Allaah, justice and every other righteous quality.

As for the command in Suraah An-Nisaa to marry 2, 3 or 4 if you are able to, then this refers to the general Muslims, that they are allowed to marry up to 4 wives at once. However, the Messenger of Allaah was not included in this command, this command is to all the believers other than him.

So the Messenger sal-Allaahu `alayhi wasallaim had many wives, from them Khadija, Sawdah, `Aa'ishah, Safiyyah, Umm Habibah, Hafsa, Juwairiyah, Maymunah, Zaynab bint Jahsh, Zaynab bint Khuzaymah and Umm Salamah, may Allaah be pleased with them all, for they are the Mothers of the Believers.

If you confused as to why the Messenger of Allaah married so many women, then reasons include to unite and improve relations with tribes, to spread the message of Islaam as well as other such reasons. So the Messenger of Allaah, sal-Allaahu `alayhi wasallam married Safiyyah who was a Jew I believe, but by doing so he, sal-Alaahu `alayhi wasallam established links with her tribe and Islaam was able to spread amongst them, and they probably felt proud/happy knowing that one of their tribe members was married to a Prophet of Allaah. Likewise by marrying Hafsah, he sal-Allaahu `alayhi wasallam became related to his dear companion, the Ameer of the believers `Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab, may Allaah be pleased with him. So their already strong ties had been reinforced by this.

I can't find any scholarly information on this topic right now, but inshaa' Allaah I hope that if you look up the ayah (verse) on this subject in the Tafseer (explanation/exegis of the Qur'aan) of Imaam Ibn Katheer, you should find more information.

I hope this answers your question.

Wa`alaykum us-salaam.

From Tafseer Ibn Katheer, and what has been said about the aayah,

It is not lawful for you (to marry other) women after this, nor to change them for other wives even though their beauty attracts you, except those whom your right hand possesses. And Allah is Ever a Watcher over all things.
[Soorah Al-Ahzaab 33:52]

More than one of the scholars, such as Ibn `Abbas, Mujahid, Ad-Dahhak, Qatadah, Ibn Zayd, Ibn Jarir and others stated that this Ayah was revealed as a reward to the wives of the Prophet expressing Allah's pleasure with them for their excellent decision in choosing Allah and His Messenger and the Home of the Hereafter, when the Messenger of Allah , gave them the choice, as we have stated above. When they chose the Messenger of Allah their reward was that Allah restricted him to these wives, and forbade him to marry anyone else or to change them for other wives, even if he was attracted by their beauty -- apart from slave-girls and prisoners of war, with regard to whom there was no sin on him. Then Allah lifted the restriction stated in this Ayah and permitted him to marry more women, but he did not marry anyone else, so that the favor of the Messenger of Allah towards them would be clear. Imam Ahmad recorded that `A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said: "The Messenger of Allah did not die until Allah permitted (marriage to other) women for him.'' It was also recorded by At-Tirmidhi and An-Nasa'i in their Sunans. On the other hand, others said that what was meant by the Ayah....

See http://www.tafsir.com/default.asp?sid=33&tid=41988 or check the hard copies of Tafseer Ibn Katheer if you possess/have access to them. I hope this proof is clear to you,

wa`alaykum us-salaam.
