Lessons from the Surah

Taken from one of the lectures of Brother Nouman Ali Khan, May Allah (swt) bless him in his efforts and make it easy for us to recite, understand, learn and memorize the quran - ameen
Principle of the quran
that they might reflect upon its verses

So they may engage in the activity of yadabur, so we reflect, and have a deep understanding of the ayah
Each ayah should be reflected on its merit first,
The Most Merciful

Taught the Qur'an,
These both are one sentence, but Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) put a stop after ar rahman made it an ayah, so we can reflect.
Everytime we say this word in bismiAllah, so 1st thign we are asked to reflect on mercy, how is Allah merciful to me, what is Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) doing right now which is displaying mercy?
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) gave us two names for his mercy Ar rahman n Ar raheem, but in this ayah Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) chose this particular Ar rahman.
The word Ar rahman is diff from ar raheem
Rahman doesn't just mean merciful but extremely, overwhelming, incredibly merciful
Allah is doing something incredibly merciful right now it represents right now
Its befitting Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) uses Ar rahman cause in the Surah Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) lists specific mercy.
So the entire surah how we understand is in one word. SubhanAllah
So the ayah shows the priority list of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) mercy and the 1st thing is
Taught the Qur'an

The 1st thing we should think is that not just Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) gave/send (anzala) but Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) says Alamal , taught the Quran, Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) use a very particular phrase.

Then
Created man,

So Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) who is extremely merciful taught us the quran and then created us so being taught the quran is a bigger mercy.
SubhanAllah, when Allah(Subhanahu Wa Taala) says taught the Quran, Allah doesn't say who did he taught it too, he (Subhanahu Wa Taala) left it as a open statement, so anyone who wants to learn can learn.
In the Last Surah (Surat Al-Qamar (The Moon))
And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

This ayah Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) mentions it 4 times (17,22,32,40) in the surah
SubhanAllah
Think about who the teacher is Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) what an honor !!
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) is saying in the end in reality who taught you it was Ar rahman, it is he (Subhanahu Wa Taala) who taught you.
If we are not really learning the Quran, then look what are we doing, are we really appreciating Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) mercy
Created man,

There are two lines of opinion where insan come from the origin of the word
1st- Insan comes from naseea, so it literally means the one who forgot
Surah 7:172
IN ayah we took a agreement with Allah, the prb is when we come to this earth we forget.
So what helpss a forgetful person, reminder.
So if someone by defination is forgetful then wats the most important thing REMINDER
2nd - come from the origin uns, so seeking love, compassion.
So someone who is pre-programmed with love and compassion the perfect message would be Love, mercy.
[And] taught him eloquence.

Quran came down in clear, beautiful arabic speech, so the human being who wants compassion, the quran came in perfect speech so to learn the quran Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) even taught us al bayan, The ability to speak clearly, to learn, to communicate, Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) gave us this ability, the speech.
So look at the word alama , Allah used it with Alamal Quran n alamal bayan, so Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) taught us the quran n also bayan, but look Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) doesn't say al arabiya just bayan, so which language, all languages. So that’s why we should have respect for all languages
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) taught all languages and out of all languages Allah chose one and honored them on.
So the ability for us to speak that’s an honor from Allah he (Subhanahu Wa Taala) taught us speech like he taught us quran so this ability to speak is a gift from Allah and it should be used wisely, should not be used for filthy vile low things.
As soon as this passage is done Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) starts talking about other than human being.
The moon, sky, …. , Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) switches over to other creatures, that do exactly what Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) made them to do, they do precisely, like we can make calendar on them.
The creations of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala) they are doing what exactly they are suppose to do, but look at us Allah made us better, taught us the quran what are we doing?
We even have the gift of Messenger (Peace Be Upon him) of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Taala).

Bottomline: We should understand and learn the Quran.
