Asslamaliekum warahmatullahi wabrakatu,
Has anyone any Idea what going on in Myanmar? Since few days I am seeing extremely censored images in Facebook news feed. :( :( :( I am curious to know how did this persecution of Muslims start? What is Myanmar's Govt. Doing about this? etc...
May Allah (swt) Protect our brothers and sisters over there.

Three very good questions, brother. I started digging around for the background first. I got as far as wikipedia's page on the Rohingya people (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rohingya_people)
It seems in History, Burma wanted Rohingya land, but not the people - I ran out of time to read for now, inshAllah I will get back to this interesting topic. Any more info will be appreciated.

May Allah (swt) Protect our brothers and sisters over there.

InshAllah. May Allah (swt) protect all our brothers and sisters

Jazakallah khairan brother.
It seems the situation is quite severe than that has been reported in article. It says 30 casualities, but I just saw an image of a pile of dead bodies maybe hundred or 2 hundred or could be more few hours back. Most of the images were very disturbing (like heads lying around or a man whose thumb was almost detached from hand). I am feeling very sick now. *vomit*

~~~Alhamdulillah~~~
Wa alaikumassalam warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu bhai,although some are using images of cyclone/tsunami disasters.Although situation is indeed serious but we do not know to what extent.
The one question which is troubling my mind is since it is in our neighborhood,we need to do something.
What can be done for we will be answerable to Allah akhee.
That might be true but had they been just tsunami/cyclone victims shouldn't the people around the dead bodies be mixed people? I only saw buddhist monks in red clothes around, no muslim to be seen in vicinity. (I am just talking about Images I saw though)
Exactly! :( Thats the point. Jazakallah Khairan Brother.
Yes,I saw them too akhee,Allahu aalam one of them was of a dead baby :( Allahul musta'an.
Someone told me it's of cyclone in 2008 or something,so maybe Allahu 'aalam ithe one you saw is of the same?
Wajazakallahu khayr akhee I was reading this ayah about Bani Israil,it seemed eerily related to our present position
ضُرِبَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الذِّلَّةُ أَيْنَ مَا ثُقِفُوا إِلَّا بِحَبْلٍ مِّنَ اللَّهِ وَحَبْلٍ مِّنَ النَّاسِ وَبَاءُوا بِغَضَبٍ مِّنَ اللَّهِ وَضُرِبَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الْمَسْكَنَةُ
Indignity is put over them wherever they may be, except when under a covenant (of protection) from Allah, and from men; they have drawn on themselves the Wrath of Allah, and destruction is put over them....[3:112]
May Allah help us all.Ameen
Just some more links I found:
Rohingya are not the only Muslim population in Burma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_Burma#Demographics)
Though they are the focus of most of the recent news reports (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Rakhine_State_riots)
There are other groups fleeing Burma too, eg the Kachin are fleeing to China (http://www.aljazeera.com/video/ - sorry, no direct link, but there are a few clips of interest there)
To answer the original question, what is going on in Burma? - AlJazeera has a country profile (http://www.aljazeera.com/category/country/myanmar)
I think we simply didn't hear any news from the country for so long, now reporters and Amnesty investigators are allowed in, we get lots of reports. What I'm still not clear on is has Burma always been like this, only we didn't know? or did the military have things locked down so tight, nobody dared move?
It is disappointing Aung San Suu Kyi did not commit to supporting the Rohingya yet. But yes, while the world is now becoming best friends with Burma, we shouldn't forget they still have a long way to come. Allah swt knows best
assalaamu 'alaykkum wa rahmatullah
i dont know whether you are aware of this, but many muslims from myanmar have migrated to india in the past. I dont know the about north but in my metro, there is an area which is wholly for burmese. They are allowed to do business and the land have been allotted to them, but i dont know whether they were given citizenship. And this happened decades ago.
So i guess if you do a little search you could find some in your hometown too, in shaa Allah.
Hmm.. Thats really a good point. I wonder how tight is "so tight", when its suiting their agenda media can get footage from so called "terrorist camps" (allahualam what they were in reality) while on the other hand when our brothers and sisters in Islam are persecuted noone really cares to highlight it?
No, I didn't. The first part of my post didn't make sense anyway since you were referring to something else so I just deleted it.
Jazakallah Khairan brothers for your response.
