Quoting from the Bible, Haram?

Assalamu Alaikum everyone. :)

I wanna know if it's haram to use quotes from the Bible/Torah...
Because I have a bunch of quotes from the Quran that I really like and came across some quotes from Jesus in the Bible and I wanna know if it's haram to use them?

Like, for example I really like this quote:

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” -Jesus Christ (PBUH).

Sorry about my stupid question. :p

Thank you! :D

Walaykom Assalaam,

Once a companion brought a copy of the bible to show the Prophet :saw: or his companions something he found in it which is similar. The Prophet :saw: became upset, and he asked him "Didn't I come with something better than this?".

Moral of the story: we have from every beneficial verse in the Quran. If there is anything we want to teach others it should be from the Quran or the Sunnah, period.

Is He [not best] who responds to the desperate one when he calls upon Him and removes evil and makes you inheritors of the earth? Is there a deity with Allah? Little do you remember. {27:62}

And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided. {2:186}

And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent. {65:3}

I think for Muslims to quote the bible is an insult to the Quran. We believe in the original bible as being the word of Allaah, but now we have something that has replaced it. Or do we wish to go back to ignorance?

:mashallah: That is so true! Specially the part about the Bible being changed.
Thank you so much. :blackhijab: I was really confused. :p

walikumsalam,

i think brother you can use bible quotes and also torah, but only if they match the quran and sunnah.ie, bible says not to have pork, also quran says that.so you can use it when you have a dialogue with a non muslim.but ONLY if it matches the QURAN AND SUNNAH.but those that dont match we shouldnt use them att all..as we know they can be fabricated.but its best we use quran, but if we are haveing a dialogue with a christian for example we can use there bible to show proof.

Oh, okay. So the quote I posted up there, as long as it's not going against what the Quran/Sunnah teaches can I use quotes from the Bible or Torah? If they're like quotes about life or anything that has a positive meaning? I understand that the Quran has the best of 'em all and 99% of my favorite quotes are from the Quran, but I've always had this question in my mind. :)

I'd be glad if someone can answer it. :blackhijab:

sister, im not sure about that quote you have given, but there are things that match, like in quran says not to have pork,not to drink etc its also in the bible..so these things match so we can inshallah use them.but the things your not sure about, it would be best if u dont use them, its best to avoid them.keep it simple.

Yeah, I guess so. Maybe I'm just making it sound complicated, but I'll stick to the Quran quotes, they're much more powerful. :D
Thank you though! :blackhijab:
