السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Rajab, being the seventh month of the Islamic calendar is a stepping stone to the auspicious months of Sha’baan and Ramadan. Rajab is from the Ashurul Hurum (Sacred Months), where the rewards of virtuous deeds are increased. When the moon of Rajab was sighted Rasulullah (Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam) would recite the following Du’ a:

On the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), used to say the following when the month of Rajab began:

اَللّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِى رَجَبَ وَ شَعْبَانَ وَ بَلِّغْنَا رَمَضَان
“O Allah! Bless us in Rajab and Sha`ban, and bring us, oh Allah, to Ramadan.”
[Narrated by Tabarani and Ahmad]

This Du’a should be recited regularly in the month of Rajab and Sha’baan. In preparation for Ramadan, the relevance of Rajab maybe understood as the month to sow seeds (good actions), Sha’baan is the month in which we should water those seeds (with tears of remorse) and Ramadan is the month in which we real the harvest. Our elders would also explain it like this; Rajab is like the wind, Sha'ban like the clouds and Ramadan, the final rain, sent down by Allah the All-Merciful.

Rasulullah S.A.W and all the sahaba would start preparing for Ramadan right from Rajab. There is immense wisdom in this. Because if you start warming up in Rajab, by the time Ramadan approaches, you will be in full-swing and able to gain the maximum benefit.

Whilst the arrival of Ramadan is certain, no person is guaranteed reaching Ramadan. Rasulullah (Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam) would express his eagerness to be blessed with the month of Ramadhaan from Rajab. We should therefore become more inclined towards virtuous deeds and ibaadat in these months.

May Allah Ta’ala privilege us with witnessing Ramadan and grant us the ability to spend it in a manner that is most pleasing to Him, Aameen.

Some things to focus upon in this month:

1. Abundance of Istighfar.

2. Abiding by the Sunnah -try to adopt as much sunnah a'mal as possible so you can reap it's full barakah by Ramadan.

3. Fasting. 13th, 14th and 15th of each lunar month are a special sunnah of all prophets.

4. Trying to get in the habit of Tahajjud and nawafil

5. Fulfill your haqooq-ul-ibaad(duties towards mankind) so they don't hinder you in Ramadan

6. Sort out all your worldly affairs so you are not pre-occupied with them by the time Ramadan dawns, in shaa Allah.
