Ramadan Hilal Moon Sightings (USA)

Assalamu Alykum brothers and sisters. I wanted to give an update about the Moon Sightings for my brothers and sisters in the USA.

Out of the Whole USA to California, only two Muslims have seen in the moon in Connecticut (?), a brother and his wife.

Andmany masjids have started doing Taraweh and some brothers and sisters are making intentions to do Ruza tomorrow.

But tonight the moon is not visible as of now. My Uncle was in New York and when dark came, he got out of his car and the horizon was clear in front of him, not a cloud in sight, but he did not see the moon.

And also many people would also argue between the amount of witnesses needed, and the majority of the Allamah (RA) say that only one or two (meaning a few) witnesses cannot be enough, there should be a sufficient group who give news that they have sited the moon.

But Allah Knows best.

And I am going to stay up tonight (Inshallah) for Ihtiqaaf, and so when Allah Ta Alla feels it's the best time for me, then I shall see the moon.

As Salaamu Alykum to all,

It is with a heavy heart (because of a lack of unity in North America) that I have to announce that there were NO AUTHENTIC sightings of the Hial in North America on the evening of Sunday 31 Aughust 2008. I talked to some who had seen something from Albany, NY but upon verification it was determined that they had seen something but it was NOT A HILAL.

The major Islamic Organizations (other than ISNA) are starting Ramadan 1429 AH from Tue 2 Sept 2008. (By mistake earlier I had writen Tue 1 Sept 2008.)

These organizations are:
ICNA (Islamic Circle of North America)
Chicago Hilal Committee (for all of greater Chicago)
Zaytuna Institute
Shariah Board of America
Ulema Council of North America

Despite clear skies in many places NO HILAL WAS VISIBLE from New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Texas, California, Toronto.
