Question: Random thought

You know how they gave adhan back when in the prophets times, how did they tell the time for prayer? Like me, i just check my phone and have adhan pre set but im curious how they did it.

They looked at the position of the sun. Fajr is before the sun rises. Zohr is midday, after the sun is directly overhead, Asr is the afternoon - the shadow of an object is same as its length, maghrib when the sun sets and isha is night.
