Ruling on whishing someone bad things?

Walaykum salam,
What i know: it is not a conduct of a Muslim to curse or wish someone else bad fortune. Especially that we don't know how events can turn in the future, ex. that person might turn out to be better than us. Or in the sight of Allah, that person might be better than us. Cursing definitely is not an Islamic behaviour.
Cursing is so common in many cultures though. I did hear that when someone curses another, the curse goes around to enter different doors and when all the doors are closed, that curse might just come to the person who said this curse. If this is true, could someone clarify it in more details?
