Salam Alaikum as a person who has converted/reverted to Islam as a Muslim how do I give up Music ? Since most Music is Secular and does not glorify God is this a good reason not to listen to music ? Since Music can influence human behavior is this also a good reason not to listen to music ?

Muslims are aware that nothing has been prohibited by Allah except that which is harmful to the welfare of a Muslim individual and the society as a whole. The divine attribute behind the prohibition of music can be comprehended by looking into the diverse influence music can have.

Experiments carried out by doctors and professors have confirmed that the music of today is such that it does not only affect the brain, but each and every organ of one`s body. There is a close relationship between music and bodily movements. We find that people listening to music automatically start tapping their fingers and feet, as if the music is permeating in their blood.

It is also proved that music affect`s one`s emotions, increases arousal in terms of alertness and excitement and also leads to various physiological changes in the person. In a psychology experiment, it was found that listening to moderate type of music increased one`s normal heart beat, whilst listening to rock music the heart beat increased even further, yet people claim that music has no effect.

It is a very ignorant and misguided attitude to percieve music as a form of pleasure and passing of time, since the messages of today`s music follow a general theme of love, fornication, drugs and freedom.

Assalaam alaikum,

The more I practice my deen the easier it has been to give up things. And music was one of the hardest. I had to make a concerted effort.
I simply turned off the radio in the car. I threw out all my CD'S. I will not download anything.

I read. I stumbled upon the number of musicians who have made pacts with the shytans. Some of the biggest names in the music industry have written books about their contracts. ( or had books written about them)

In a discussion with a Believing sister we raised the point that most of the musicians of our youth are dead. They lead hard hard lives.

Do I want to spent my limited time on Earth listening to those who willfully and knowingly do acts to please the shytan...

as you know..I'd rather spend time on TTI.

yesterday I heard on tv that music is a good helper for sick people, for the mother while sh'e delivering.it relaxes the body for decrease the pain of people who had accident...
it was hard for me to give up music,'cause it was part of most of my rememberings.sometimes I wish to give a look at my past, just as if I am complaining myself for something.I don't listen music at home, but it happened some days ago that I was walking through a boutique and there was an arabic song which I listnened many times before knowing it was haram,I felt a shiver for a moment,'cause it remembered me when I fell in love of my husband.I confess that for an instant I had the instnct to sing that song and dance it.I regret that I felt melancolic,it means that I've still much to learn and to give up.Allah knows how strong is my faith and how much I love Him,may He forgive me for my "defaiances"
