Saying "Ramdaan Kareem"- Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan

Shaykh Saalih ibn al-Fawzaan al-Fawzaan (hafidhahullaah) was asked a question regarding the statement “Ramadan Kareem”.

يقول السائل : القول في رمضان كريم ، أليس الكريم هو الله ؟

Question: The statement “Ramadan Kareem”, is not Allah Al Kareem?

Answer: This has no basis. Their statement Ramadan Kareem, this has no basis. As for “Ramadan Shareef”, “Ramadan Mubaarik”, “Ramadan Adheem”, these descriptions appear in various narrations. Adheem, Mubaarik, Shareef, there is no problem (with these terms). As for Kareem, then I do not know of any origin for this.

Is saying Ramadan Mubarak be bidah

Is saying "Ramadan Mubarak" or "Ramadan Kareem" considered to be bid3ah?.

Praise be to Allaah.

There is nothing wrong with congratulating one another at the beginning of the month. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to tell his Companions the good news of the onset of Ramadaan, and urge them to make the most of it. Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘There has come to you Ramadaan, a blessed month. Allaah has made it obligatory on you to fast (this month). During it the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are locked, and the devils are chained up. In it there is a night that is better than a thousand months, and whoever is deprived of its goodness is deprived indeed.’” (Reported by al-Nisaa'i, 4/129; Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1/490)

And Allaah knows best.

Question: What is the Islamic ruling for saying to each other, when Ramadan comes,: "Ramadan Kareem" and "Ramadan Mubaarak". Is it a Bid'a or a Sunnah? And what is the proof of it? We never say this in my home country

Fatwa: Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Some scholars believe that it is lawful for Muslims to congratulate each other for the entering of Ramadan by saying "Ramadan Mubarak " and the like.

Their evidence for this is the Hadith reported by Ahmad that the Prophet said: "…. A blessed (Mubarak) month has shadowed you …".

Ibn Rajab said that this Hadith is an evidence for the lawfulness of congratulating one another for the coming of Ramadan'.
Allah knows best.

Asslamaliekum warahmatullahi wabrakatu,
Brother, these which you have posted are general fatwas regarding congradulating each other on beginning of ramadan, not specific to term 'ramadan kareem'. So they do not contradict. :)

Wa `alaykumu s-salāmu wa rahmatu l-lāhi wa barakātuh.

I did not see anything like saying Ramadan Karim is haram/bid3ah at the first post. So, yes, there are no contradictions. The two fatwas I posted earlier do allow congratulating even if the word 'Kareem' exists there. ;]
