t's the story about the one that got away no beachgoer wants to hear – a 1.5 metre bull shark was reportedly chased onto the sands of Noosa's Main Beach by a bigger shark early on Friday morning.
Surf Lifesaving Queensland regional manager Aaron Purchase said members of the public noticed the hefty creature near the tidemark just after 7am.

Mr Purchase said lifeguards who began their shift at 7.30am were alerted by a small crowd of stunned onlookers out enjoying the waning hours of the school holidays.

“It's the last thing you expect to see,” he said.

“The beach wasn't open at that stage, but when [the lifeguards] arrived, they were told it potentially got chased in by a bigger shark.”
Mr Purchase said the beach was closed as lifeguards mounted a search on jet skis.

But after about two hours and no evidence of another, larger shark, the search was called off and the beach was reopened.
He said the shark had since been removed from the beach. No-one was reported as injured.
“It's not a super regular thing to see a bull shark beach itself,” Mr Purchase said.
“But if you're being chased by a bigger shark, you've only got so many place you can go.”
Bull sharks are regularly sighted in the waters around Main Beach as it's situated not far from the river mouth.
And while they are an aggressive species, there have been no reports of altercations between humans and the sharks in the area for some time.
“We haven't had any issues of sharks interacting with people up in that area,” Mr Purchase said.
“We're back to usual business now, though we're keeping an eye out as lifeguards at every beach do.”

Thousands Of Sharks Spotted Off Florida Coast Shark Inasion

Published on Mar 8, 2013
The cold weather isn't the only thing keeping South Florida swimmers out of the Atlantic Ocean.

This week thousands of blacktip and spinner sharks were filmed swarming off the state's southern coast as part of their seasonal migration. Watch the video above.

Tuesday and Wednesday, three Palm Beach County beaches were closed as the sharks could be seen jumping and flipping close to shore.

And after the fatal shark attack in New Zealand last week, no one is rushing back into the water.

Florida Atlantic University graduate student Shari Tellman has been researching this shark swarm via aerial footage of the population shot twice a week.

"In the height of February we are looking at 11 to 14,000 per survey. That's a lot of sharks," Tellman told CBS, noting that she manually counts the dark shadows caught on film.

"If you are looking at swimmers along the beach line and you look at pictures of these sharks, the sharks are right there," Tellman said. "These swimmers may or may not know that. But if they did they probably wouldn't be in the water."
