The information that I am stating is from here, but it is Arabic, so I will explain and in sha Allah we can benefit.
Sheik Nasser had the opportunity to meat with a man from Germany, a non muslim. The man travels to Saudia frequently, he has a salary around $120k. He comes to Saudia very briefly then spends most of his time elsewhere. He doesn't understand Arabic. He also doesn't show any sign of mental instability.
Sheik Nasser mentioned he heard sheik Alarifi mention of something that took place when Sheik Alarifi was in Europe. So he tried it.

The first time was regular talk.
The second time was calling to Allah.
The third time was reciting Quran.
