Simple Questions

Brothers and Sisters please excuse me for my ignorance, and let me start by saying that although I'm born Muslim. My life thus far has been less than commendable, however with the mercy and grace of Allah (swt) I see myself changing for the better insallah. And I have questions arising with my understanding of deen some minor others major and although I doubt I'll remember them all now I'd like some help with some of these matters especially that of salat, insallah.

1. In individual salat after the recitation of Al-Fatiha, does one say Ameen? Also the same goes with SadaqahAllah LaIjeem and Rubbenana Lakaalhamd (are both said)?

2. Can one recite an ayat instead of a sura after Al-Fatiha (ayat al kursi for example)?

3. What is said, if anything after the first arising from a fully prostrated position, I'm not talking about al tahyet here?

4. The mind slightly wandering during prayer or at times going through the prayer almost as a script?

I will answer your questions one by one inshallah:

1. Upon completing recitation of Al-Fatiha you must say Ameen..do not say "Sadaqah Allaho Al-Adheem" as it is a bida'ah (innovation)..do not say it for Al-Fatiha or any Surah you recite..About saying "Rabbana wa laka Al-hamd"..I am confused as to *what you mean by saying it?*..do you mean when you get up from ruko'o or after reciting a surah?..I would rather be clear on what you mean before giving an answer

2. Yes you may recite a group of ayaat out of any surah you wish after reciting Al-Fatiha..you do not have to recite a "full" surah.

3. You can say "Rabbi ighfir liy" (three times)..or "allahoma ighfir liy warhamni wa 'afini wahdini warziqni"..or "allahoma ighfir liy warhamni wajborni wa warziqni warfa'ani"..or you can combine the last two in one dua'a (upon the recommendation of Al-Nawwawi, Rahimahuallah).."Allahoma ighfir liy warhamni warhamni wa 'afini wajborni warfa'ani wa wahdini warzoqni"...and you can say something like "Ya Allah grant me Jannah".."Ya Allah protect me from hellfire".."Ya Allah forgive me and my parents"..but scholars recommend that you stick to what Rasulullah (saaws) said when he prayed (the dua'as I listed for you in the beginning) as it is better.

4. You should try your very best to regain concentration and focus on the words and their meanings..best way to do that is to take your time praying..and always remembering that fighting wandering and the whispers of shaitan during salat..is considered a jihad (I read this by Ibn Al-Qayyim, Rahimahullah)..it might help you to read on ways to gain kushu'u during salat..the best I remember was recommended by Rasulullah (saaws)..where he said "pray your prayer as if it is your last one"

I hope this all helps..and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions..because here..when you ask a question and you get a valid and correct answer..you don't just help yourself..you help others..so think of all the ajer you could earn (with Allah's will) with that!
