As-salaamu'alaykum,
On occasion, Umar would light a fire, dangle his hand inside of the flames and say,
“O son of al-Khattab, are you able to endure this (i.e., if you cannot endure the fire of this world, then how will you be able to endure the fire of the Hellfire, which is many times more severe).”
