Article The Fundamentals of Calling to Allah

Assalam alaikum

The Fundamentals of Calling to Allah:

Call to Allah has many fundamentals that lead to achieve the desired objectives. The most important of these fundamentals include the following:

1 –The Knowledge:

Knowledge here refers to the religious education and information of the Book of Allah Almighty as well as the familiarity with the blessed Sunnah of the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). This includes the knowledge about the issues related to the Oneness of Allah, His Oneness in His Lordship, His Oneness in His worship, His Oneness and Uniqueness in His names and attributes. Moreover, the religious knowledge includes the acquaintance with the jurisprudential rulings on the permissible and prohibited things with the perception of the compulsory and obligatory worships and rituals.etc.

The importance of Islamic science is evident from the first Surat of the Glorious Qur’an that begins with the invitation of learning, reading and writing, as Allah (Glory be to Him) says: “Read! In the Name of your Lord Who has created (all that exists). He has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood).Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous. Who has taught (the writing) by the pen. He has taught man that which he knew not. (Al `Alaq: 1-5).

Islamic knowledge is essential requirement and basic need for working in the field of Da`wah, because the knowledge guides to the true religion, in all aspects; such as doctrine and worship, morality and ethics and other good deeds, while the ignorance about religion will lead to the emergence of deviations and contradictions in doctrine and worship. That is why, Allah (Glory be to Him) has praised the scholars, as the Almighty said: “Say: "Are those who know equal to those who know not?" It is only men of understanding who will remember (i.e. get a lesson from Allâh’s Signs and Verses.” [Surat Az-Zumar].

Furthermore, Allah (Glory be to Him) says in this regard: “It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves that fear Allâh. Verily, Allâh is All-Mighty, Oft-Forgiving.” [Surat Fa’tir: 28].

2 – The Sincerity:

Sincerity in intention and making it for only Allah Almighty is the most important element for Da`wah that keeps the mission on its track and on the right direction, as Allah (Glory be to Him) says: “And they were commanded not, but that they should worship Allâh, and worship none but Him Alone (abstaining from ascribing partners to Him).” [Surat Al Bayyinah: 5].

Moreover, Allah (Glory be to Him) blesses every effort made for Him and Allah Himself undertakes the safety and success of Da`wah activists. That is why, Allah Almighty has commanded His slaves to be sincere in their intentions and dedicate their work for Him alone regardless of their results and outcomes. Allah (Glory be to Him) says about His Prophet Hud (peace be upon him): “O my people I ask of you no reward for it (the Message). My reward is only from Him Who created me. Will you not then understand?” [Surat Hud: 51].

On the other hand, whoever works for other than Allah or for name and fame or for money or worldly positions or any other purposes then Allah (Glory be to Him) rewards him according to his intention and would be deprived of reward in the Hereafter, as the Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and the blessings of Allah be upon him) says: “Indeed, actions depend upon the intentions and every person gets only what he intends." (1)

So the preachers, reformers and scholars must be aware of any kind of deviation in their intention and purpose, which determines the success or failure of the preacher, because calling to Allah is a sort of worship that makes a person closer to Allah Almighty. Therefore, we must purify our intentions for Allah Almighty alone.

3 – Clear Goal and Definite Vision:

Clear vision and definite goal in delivering Islam to the people is among the elements of success for Da`wah activities that intends to bring the people out of darkness into the light, following the example of the Prophets and Messengers of Allah (peace be upon them) who used to illustrate the goal of their invitation for the people, as Allah (Glory be to Him) says about them in the Glorious Qur’an: “And verily, We have sent among every nation a Messenger (proclaiming): "Worship Allâh (Alone), and avoid all false deities.” Then of them were some whom Allâh guided and of them were some upon whom the straying was justified. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the truth).” [Surat An-Nahl: 36].

The goal of Da`wah is crystal clear through this Verse, represented in inviting to the worship of Allah Alone and leaving the worship of any other things; statues, idols and any other forms of false gods or deities.

On the other hand, the Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and the blessings of Allah be upon him) has explained this vision in his mission that continued twenty-three years. It was narrated from Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) who said: When the Verse “And warn your tribe (O Muhammad) of near kindred.” [Ash-Shu`ara’: 214] was revealed, the Messenger of Allah (may the peace and the blessings of Allah be upon him) mounted the top of Safa hill (in blessed Mecca), and shouted, "Yâ Sabâhâh! (An Arabic expression used when one appeals for help or draws the attention of others to some danger). The people said: “Who is that? They answered: “He is Muhammad,” then they gathered around him, whereupon he addressed: O so and so tribe! O son of `Abd Mana’f! O son of `Abdul-Muttalib! ” Then he addressed them saying: “Do you see? If I tell you that some cavalrymen are proceeding up the side of this mountain to attack you, will you believe me?” They said: “We have never heard you telling a lie.” Then he added, “I am a plain warner to you of a coming severe punishment.” Whereupon Abû Lahab said: “May you perish! You gathered us only for this reason?” Then Abû Lahab went away. And the following Surat was revealed: “Perish the two hands of Abû Lahab (an uncle of the Prophet Muhammad) and perish he!” [Sûrat Al Masad: 1]

Anyway, the invitation of the Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and the blessings of Allah be upon him) was clear to everyone, far from any kind of ambiguity, secret or hiding any fact, as is the case with other faiths, creeds and religions of the world. This was also reflected when the Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and the blessings of Allah be upon him) introduced his message to the delegations visiting the blessed Mecca, and his goal was also clear when he sent letters to the Kings and Monarchs of his time, as he (may the peace and the blessings of Allah be upon him) said in one of his letters to Hercules: “In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful. This letter is from Muhammad, the slave and Messenger of Allah to Heraclius, the great King of Rome. Blessed are those who follow the guidance. After this, verily I call you to Islam. Embrace Islam that you may find peace, and Allah will give you a double reward. But if you reject it then on you shall rest the sin of your subjects and followers.” (4) " O people of the Scripture, come to a word that is common between us and you: that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah, then if they turn away say: ‘Bear witness that we are Muslims.’ [Surat A’l `Imran:65]" (2 ).

We will mention in the following episode, by the Will of Allah the rest of the fundamentals of Calling to Allah .

May the blessings and the peace of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family members and his all companions.
