Did you know that the act of baking dates back thousands of years? Ok, it wasn't the precise construction of a 21st century cronut or the delicate folding of French pastry but the Egyptians and the Greeks all developed a number of techniques and technology to help them bake their bread.

This infographic from Make Bake looks at the history of baking with a time line of some of the biggest events in baking history.

Romans, Greeks, Scandinavians and Europeans all get a mention from the first ever bakers guild which formed in 168BC to the 17th century and the use of moulds and refined sugars.

If you love to bake and want to know more about how the process began take a look at this.

assalamu alaykum,

This is interesting except they found evidence of people harvesting wheat and barley and baking in Palestine from around 23,000 years ago.

Also specialist scientists look at the bones and teeth of humans and have found evidence of farming, baking etc They can even extract the dna from the plaque on teeth.
