He participated in rebuilding the Ka’aba and placing The Black Stone in its place.
Imam Ahmad narrated, “When Quraish differed regarding the issue of placing The Black Stone in its place some said, ‘put amongst you a judge’. Another group said, ‘the first man who walks out of the valley (will be the judge)’. Rasulullah was the first man to walk out and they (i.e. the Quraishis) said, ‘The Trustworthy one has come’. Rasulullah then placed The Black Stone on a garment and asked the leaders to carry it by its edges and he placed the stone in its place”.
Rasulullah’s age at the time was 35 years.
28.What is the wisdom and benefit(s) witnessed in this occasion?
The acceptance of Quraish in assigning Rasulullah as a judge for placing The Black Stone in Al-Ka’aba and calling him The Trustworthy one is a proof for the sound and noble character which Allah (swt) bestowed upon His prophet which comprised traits such as trustworthiness, and honesty.
Rasulullah’s resolution to the conflict was a success from Allah (swt) to bring people’s attention to him and to what Allah has willed for him in carrying a bigger duty of unifying people through the call for Islam.
Should it not been for Allah’s wisdom and the inspiration He endowed to His prophet to carry on with the suggestion he made, much bloodshed would have taken place.
29. What were some of Rasulullah’s miracles before revelation?
Jabir bin Samra narrated, “Rasulullah said, ‘I know stones in Makkah which used to greet me before I became a prophet (i.e. revelation was sent down to him), I still know these stones (to this day)”. [agreed upon]
True visions.
Sayidatina Aisha (ra) narrated, “Rasulullah’s revelation began with the visions he saw in his dreams. He would not see a vision unless it befalls like the rise of dawn”. [agreed upon]
Preferment of solitude.
Continued from the previous hadith narrated by Sayidatina Aisha (ra), “Then, solitude became relished by him. He would set off to a cave in Harra’a (a mountain in Makkah) and worship for a number of nights”. [agreed upon]
Al-Nawawi said, “…and this is (i.e. solitude for worship and reflection) is a trait of the upright men and Allah-knowing worshippers”.
30. When did the revelation come down to Rasulullah?
Abi Qotada narrated, “Rasulullah was asked about fasting on Monday, and he said, ‘that is the day which I was born in and the day I was sent (as a prophet of Allah)’” [Muslim]
Ibn Al-Qayyim said, “There is no dispute that revelation (was sent) on a Monday”.
Sayidatina Aisha (ra) narrated, “The Angel (i.e. Jibrae’el/Gabriel) came to him and said ‘read’ and he (i.e. Rasulullah) said, ‘I am not a reader’ three times until (Jibrae’el) said, ‘Read! In the Name of your Lord Who has created. He has created man from a clot. Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous’ [96:1-3]”.[agreed upon]
By saying, “I am not a reader” Rasulullah was declaring being illiterate.
The wisdom of Almighty Allah decreed that Rasulullah be an illiterate who does not know how to read or write to keep away suspicions and allegations over the source of The Qura’an.
Regarding this matter Allah (swt) says in The Qura’an,“Neither did you (O Muhammad) read any book before it (this Qur'an), nor did you write any book with your right hand. In that case, indeed, the followers of falsehood might have doubted”.[Al-Ankaboot, 29:48]
She said to Rasulullah, “No! By Allah!, Allah will not demean you. You keep ties of kinship, speak the truth, bear everyone (i.e. their characters, demands, etc.), and you help (others) with the misfortunes of life”.
Her words signify her astuteness, rectitude, and the soundness of her actions and predisposition (i.e. fitrah).
34. What did Sayidatina Khadija (ra) do after comforting Rasulullah?
Sayidatina Aisha (ra) narrated, “she (i.e. Sayidatina Khadija) took him (i.e. Rasulullah) to her cousin Waraqa bin Nawfal who was a Christian man in Al-Jahiliyyah (Time of Ignorance, Pre-Islamic Era). Who was also blind and of very old age, and Rasulullah told him about what took place”. [agreed upon]
He wished that he would still be alive when Rasulullah declares his prophethood and the revelation.
Waraqa said, “how I wish I would be alive and of youth when your people (i.e. Quraishis) exile you. Rasulullah asked, “They shall exile me?” Waraqa said, “None have brought forth what you have brought and was not denounced, and should I witness your day (i.e. your declaration of prophethood) I shall succor you”.
Waraqa died soon after the incident.
36. What was the first revelation from The Qura’an?
Jabir narrated from Rasulullah saying, “While I was walking, I heard a voice so I looked up to see The Angel (i.e. Jibrae’el/Gabriel) who came to me (before), sitting on a chair between the heaven and the earth, and I was frightened by him. I went back (to my house) and I said, ‘cover me, cover me’ and then Allah revealed,‘O you (Muhammad) enveloped in garments! Arise and warn!’ until (the verse), ‘And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)![74:1-2, 5]'". [agreed upon]
Revelation continued in a frequent and steady manner after this incident.
It is important to note that the manner of revelation experienced by Rasulullah was experienced by the prophets before him. Allah (swt) says in The Qura’an,“Verily, We have sent the revelation to you (O Muhammad) as We sent the revelation to Nuh (Noah) and the Prophets after him”.[Annissa’a, 4:163]
40. What were the types/forms of revelation experienced by Rasulullah (as listed by Ibn Al-Qayyim)?
As stated in the hadith narrated by Sayidatina Aisha, ‘Rasulullah’s revelation began with the visions he saw in his dreams’).
What Jibrae’el (Gabriel) casted into Rasulullah’s heart without him actually seeing Jibrae’el (as).
As stated in the hadith narrated by Ibn Maso’od in which he said, “Rasulullah said, ‘The Holy Spirit imbued into my heart that no soul shall die before it earns (its full) sustenance therefore, fear Allah and rectify your needs (i.e. your dua’as/supplications for material goods and the like)'” [Muslim]
Jibrae’el coming to Rasulullah in the shape of an ordinary man.
As stated in the hadith narrated by Omar, “Rasulullah said to him, ‘do you know who the questioner (i.e. regarding a matter) was? Omar said, ‘I said, Allah and His messenger know best’, Rasulullah said, ‘That was Jibrae’el. He came to teach you (all) your religion’” [Muslim]
Revelation coming to Rasulullah through a sound like that of a bell clanking (which was the worst for Rasulullah).
As stated in the hadith narrated by Sayidatina Aisha (ra), “Al-Harith bin Hisham asked Rasulullah ‘how do you receive revelations?’, he said, ‘at times it comes to me like the clanking of a bell and it is the most wearying for me, then it ceases and I comprehend what is revealed’” [Bukhari]
Revelation through Allah (swt) without intermediaries, or Jibrae’el (as).
Such as the revelation for the obligation of salat (prayer) upon Rasulullah and his ummah (nation) during Al-Israa’a wal Me’eraj (The Night Journey of Ascension). [Hadiths regarding it are available in various books of hadith]
From men: Sayidina Abu Bakr Assiddiq (as stated in the hadiths below).
Rasulullah said to Omar, “Allah sent me to you (all) and you (all) said ‘he lied’, but Abu Bakr said ‘he uttered the truth’”. [Bukhari]
Abu Bakr himself said when chosen as a Khalifah (successor of Rasulullah), “Aren’t I the one most worthy of it? Aren’t I the first man to (accept) Islam?” [Tirmidhi]
Ammar narrated, “I saw Rasulullah and the (only believers of his call) were five slaves, two women, and Abu Bakr”. [Bukhari]
From boys: Sayidina Ali Ibn Abi Talib.
Sayidina Ali was only 10-years-old as Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar suggested.
From slaves/servants: Zayd bin Haritha (as stated in the earlier hadith narrated by Ammar, ‘the (only believers of his call) were five slaves’).
Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar narrated in another hadith, “the five slaves were: Bilal bin Rabbah, Zayd bin Haritha, Aamir bin Fuhaira, ………..”
43.Was Waraqa bin Nawfal of the foremost believers (in Islam)?
Yes he was, because he believed in the prophethood of Rasulullah when he said “I wish I would be alive and of youth when your people exile you” and “should I witness your day (i.e. your declaration of prophethood) I shall succor you”.
Rasulullah said about Nawfal, “Do not curse him, I have seen (i.e. seen a vision of him) with a jannah (paradise) or two” [Al-Bazzar]
At another instance Rasulullah said, “I have seen him (i.e. in a vision) wearing white garments”. [Ahmad]
44.Who accepted Islam through Sayidina Abu Bakr (ra)?
Sayidina Othman bin Affan, Al-Zubair bin Al-Awwam, Abdul-Rahman bin Awf, Sa’ad bin Abi Waqqas, and Talha bin Ubaydullah, (may allah be pleased with them all).
In this is a virtue of Sayidina Abu Bakr in that he is the first Dae’eya (caller to Islam) after Rasulullah .
In this also is the blessing bestowed by Allah (to Sayidina Abu Bakr), and the virtue (granted to him) of guiding others one by one through his efforts (ra).
45.Who were some of the foremost believers in Islam?
Sa’ad bin Abi Waqqas who through an authentic narration of hadith was said to have accepted Islam a week after its revelation.
Then there was Al-Zubair bin Al-Awwam, Abdullah bin Maso’od, Ammar bin Yasir, and Bilal bin Rabbah.
As told by Ammar in the hadith quoted earlier, “I saw Rasulullah and the (only believers of his call) were five slaves, two women, and Abu Bakr”. [Bukhari]
Ibn Maso’od also narrated in a hadith, “the first (people) to declare their Islam were seven: Rasulullah , Abu Bakr, Ammar, Ammar’s mother Summayya, Suhaib, Bilal, and Al-Moqdad”. [Ahmad]
Amro bin Unbasa narrated, “At that time I came to see myself being (part of) the quarter of Islam”.
Amro made such statement to signify the rapid spread of Islam amongst the Quraishis, until they reached a number of 40 people in a very short amount of time.
46.What was the wisdom from making da’awa in secret?
Making da’awa in secret was a chance for the Muslims to learn their religion better, organize themselves, and a phase through which the believers can become stronger and more likely to endure afflictions (due to their rejection of polygamy).
Rasulullah came to them (i.e. the Quraishis) with a new matter, and a new belief. Had Rasulullah made his call to Islam public immediately, those rejecting him might have made it extremely difficult for him to preach to those who accepted him. In such a critical condition, he would have found a challenge to teach his followers their religion, embed within them its fundamentals, and thus preparing them for the tremendous duties awaiting them in the near future.
47.What social class/conditions were most followers of Rasulullah from?
Open da’awa started through the verse,“And warn your tribe (O Muhammad) of near kindred”.[Ashua’araa’a, 26:214]
Sayidina Ali (ra) narrated, “when the verse ‘And warn your tribe (O Muhammad) of near kindred’, Rasulullah gathered his family. About 30 people came together, they ate and drank and Rasulullah said to them ‘Which (of you) shall take my deen (religion), my promises, and dwell with me in Jannah (paradise)?’ Rasulullah then called them (to Islam) again and Abu Talib said, “By Allah, I will carry on (with) protecting you but my self (i.e. my concious/my spirit) does not seek to abandon the religion of Abdul Muttalib (i.e. his father, and Rasulullah’s grandfather).
When Rasulullah was assured of Abu Talib’s support of him he went to Mount Assafa and preached Islam to Quraishis.
Ibn Abbas narrated, “When the verse ‘And warn your tribe (O Muhammad) of near kindred’ was revealed, Rasulullah set out until he reached Mount Assafa, climbed it and yelled “O’ Morning (i.e. good morning) and the people asked, ‘who is this?’ and they gathered around him and he said to them, ‘I bid you all witnesses, that if I were to tell you of an army coming from behind this mount shall you not believe me?, they said to Rasulullah, ‘we have not witnessed you (as a) liar’ and he said to them ‘then I am warner (sent) to you and through me comes (the warning of) an enormous torment’ to this Abu Lahab (one of the uncles of Rasulullah) said ‘may you be cursed! You did not gather us but for this?’ and he stood up (and left) then the verse ‘Perish the two hands of Abu Lahab and perish he!’ [111:1] was revealed”. [agreed upon]
Yes, for Allah did not neglect (the actions of) Abu Lahab towards Rasulullah and He (swt) made a record of him in a chapter to be recited until The Day of Resurrection. It is a curse upon him until he meets his eternal destiny in the hereafter.
Allah (swt) said in the Qura’an regarding Abu Lahab,“Perish the two hands of Abu Lahab and perish he! His wealth and his children will not benefit him! He will be burnt in a Fire of blazing flames! And his wife, too, who carries wood. In her neck is a twisted rope of Masad (palm fibre)”.[Al-Massad, 111:1-5]
Regarding the hadith in Q42 & Q45, unfortunately I could only find this version listing only 3 names out of the total 5..I tried my best to find it but to no avail..and since I am not familiar with the hadith itself..but I am familiar with a context very close to it (through other narrations of seerah)..I did not want to put "my guess" in to complete it..if anybody knows the rest of the names..by all means..do me (and the others) the huge favor of listing them here in the thread..and baraka allaho fe anybody who does so..in advance!
