The nature of man...

Drenched deep in sadness sat a man alone,
The animals gathered hearing his moan,
“We do not like you so sad…
Ask whatever you wish and be it yours,
Faster then the proud eagle soars,
As seeing this grief drives us mad.”

Said the man, “I surely want good sight,”
“And I also want to have more might,”
The vulture replied “You shall have mine,”
Oh how they wanted a smile on that face,
That to give their gifts they would race,
And even the jaguar said its fine.

“And the secrets of the earth I wish to know
And as fast as a Cheetah I wish to go”
The serpent replied “I’ll show you every sign”
The animals could only hope
Now the man with his life would cope,
As the cheetah too rushed in line

And from the animals he had all he could,
And he seemed like one who’d changed for good,
To the animals he bid farewell,
And said the owl to the rest
“I know you have all tried your best,
But if you’re right... I cannot tell”

To the owl says the deer,
“From what he has taken from here,
His sadness is sure to stop,
His endless grief is now no more,
His heart much eased then before,
As he has reached the place on top.”

Says the Owl to the Deer,
“NO you are wrong I fear,
I saw a hole in the man
Deep like a hunger he will never fill,
Taking and taking is all he will,
To fill this hole he never can.”

“It makes him want and broken sad,
For all those things he’s never had,
By taking and taking he’ll continue to live
Until he’ll reach that time one day,
When the world will turn to him and say,
I am no more and have nothing left to give.”

SweetJannah,

You write as a Native American would......thank you for the gift you gave without knowing, for it was as sweet as the place you aim to go.
