Assalaamu Alaikum Sister,

The rock inside the Golden Dome Mosque, is place from where Prophet ascended to heaven. The Dome of Rock is part of the entire Al Aqsa Mosque campus. History of that place, jerusalem spans many milleniums. The known history is easily 4000 years.
