My name is Emily and I am 24 years old. I am an American and I live in Michigan (a state within the USA). I was lost in a pretty rough life. My parents were engulfed in a life of drugs, and abuse....they were never great role models. I was basicaly raised by my older sisters. We didn't have much money, and was always moving from house to house. Not a stable life at all. All my life i searched for the meaning of love, the power of strength, the feeling of hope, and for the truth. I always believed in God. At a very young age, I would pray at night while lying in bed. Begging God to make things better....for my family to be happy for our family to actually be a family. I would pray for God to protect us and guide us.
At the age of 12....i learned of Islam. My sister reverted. I was at awe. Her husband would tell me stories from the Quran and i would ask questions. I was completely intrigued by everything that i was told. But i never really took the chance to really learn about Islam. I was still very young, with barely any quidence from family or parents for that matter. I soon developed friends that were muslim. I wanted so much to have this religion in my life. Things then would go wrong, then all of my attention came off of islam. I would go astray. I always yearned for affection, love, attention, security....everything that i never felt as a child. I met a boy. Whom i soon fell in love with. I finally knew a love that i never knew existed. That too, soon changed. I got pregnant. He said he loved me, we would be married. But all fell through. I left him when my son was only 4 months old. The love, affection, everything i thought was there vanished. I had to be strong...i knew how to be strong. But i really had to be at this moment, not only for myself but for my little baby. I soon began to look for more answers, what was i to do in this life time? I knew God gave me a child for a reason. I knew the choices i made put me in a position i would have to live with forever. I again turned to Islam. I bought many books, the Quran (English translation) and borrowed even more books from my sister. I just wanted to learned everything. I began to read and learned that alot of the stuff that i did in my life was haram. The guilt i had inside was overwhelming. My heart swelled.
Thats when i knew that i had to change my life. My son is 3 years old now. And i could never be more proud of myself. Allah has shown me the true meaning of life, of love, the power of strength, everything. I am still learning, and i am teaching my son as much as i know he can understand. Everyday i do my best to be the best muslim i can be. There are a few things i need to learn still, but with the grace of Allah I will succeed. Nothing has ever felt more clearer, more true in my life than it has since i have found Allah and the true meaning of Islam. Thank Allah for everything i have gone through for all the choices that i have made in life. With out these trial and errors i wouldn't be the muslim i am today. May Allah forgive me and have mercy for all the wrong i have done and may He reward me for all the good.
May Allah continue to guide me and keep on the right path to Him and may He guide all of those who are blessed to have had the opportunity to encounter Islam, and may He guide those who do not know.
May Allah's peace and blessings be upon you.
