The Words of Shaikh Ibn Uthaymeen Concerning Suicide Bombings

Shaikh Ibn Uthaymeen, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said in his explanation of Riyaadus-Saaliheen (1/165-166), whilst giving some points of benefit from the hadeeth of Suhayb, may Allaah be pleased with him:

"That Allaah¹s Messenger, sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam, said, "There used to be a king amongst those who came before you, and he had a sorcerer. So when he grew old he said to the king, I have become old so send a boy to me so that I can teach him sorcery" * the hadeeth. (Riyaadhus-Saaliheen, no. 30)

Fourthly: That it is permissible for a person to expose himself to danger for a matter of general benefit to the Muslims, because the boy indicated to the king the way in which he would be able to kill him, and which would lead to his demise, which was that he should take an arrow from his quiver etc.

Shaikhul-Islaam (Ibn Taymiyyah) said, "Because this was a Jihaad in Allaah¹s cause, which caused a whole nation to truly believe, and he did not really lose anything, since although he died he would have to die anyway, sooner or later."

But as for what some people do regarding activities of suicide, tying explosives to themselves and then approaching Unbelievers and detonating them amongst them, then this is a case of suicide * and Allaah¹s refuge is sought. So whoever commits suicide then he will be consigned eternally to Hell-Fire, remaining there forever, as occurs in the hadeeth of the Prophet, sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam. (i.e., his, sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam, saying, " and whoever kills himself with an iron weapon, then the iron weapon will remain in his hand, and he will continuously stab himself in his belly with it in the Fire of Hell eternally, forever and ever." Reported by al-Bukhaaree, no. 5778 and Muslim, no. 109, in the Book of Eemaan.)

Because this person has killed himself and has not benefited Islaam. So if he kills himself along with ten, or a hundred, or two hundred other people, then Islaam will not benefit by that, since the people will not accept Islaam, contrary to the story of the boy. Rather it will probably just make the enemy more determined, and this action will provoke malice and bitterness in his heart to such an extent that he may seek to wreak havoc upon the Muslims.

This is what is found from the practice of the Jews with the people of Palestine * so when one of the Palestinian blows himself up and kills six or seven people, then in retaliation they take sixty or more. So this does not produce any benefit for the Muslims, and does not benefit those amongst whose ranks explosives are detonated.

So what we hold is that those people who perform these suicide (bombings) have wrongfully committed suicide, and that this necessitates entry into Hell-Fire, and Allaah¹s refuge is sought and that this person is not a martyr (shaheed). However if a person has done this based upon misinterpretation, thinking that it is permissible, then we hope that he will be saved from sin, but as for martyrdom being written for him, then no, since he has not taken the path of martyrdom. But whoever performs ijtihaad and errs will receive a single reward (if he is a person qualified to make ijtihaad)."

(End of the Shaikh's words)

Suicide bombing

Jazak Allah Khair for posting timely religious advice Besides suicide which is a major sin killing innocent peolple is totally prohibited in Islam which invariably take place in such incidents Although our brethen in Palestine,Iraq and Afghanistan have been pushed to the wall by foreign occupation forces recourse to such tactics are counter productive and leads to many more casualties of innocent muslims than that of foreign occupation forces May Allah grant us the patience and fortitude to face the foreig occupation of our lands and unity and strenght to face our enemies Ameen

As salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wabrakatuhu

Almighty Allah has said in the HOLY QURAN, " O you who believe Eat not up your property among yourselves unjustly except it be a trade amongst you, by mutual consent And do not kill one another. Surely Allah is Most Merciful to you. And whoever commits that through aggression and injustice, we shall cast him into the Hell-fire and that is easy for Allah"
CHAPTER 4 , VERSES 29 - 30.

Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) has said, " None amongst you should make a request for death, do not call for it before it comes, for when anyone of you dies he ceases to do good deeds and the life of a believer is not prolonged but for goodness."
SAHIH MUSLIM , BOOK 035, NUMBER 6485

The Prophet (pbuh) has said, " Whoever purposely throws himself from a mountain and kills himself, will be in Hell Fire falling down into it and abiding therein perpetually forever, and whoever drinks poison and kills himself with it, he will be carrying his poison in his hand and drinking it in the Hell Fire, wherein he wil abide eternally forever; and whoever kills himself with a weapon, will be carrying that weapon in his hand and killing himself with it in the Hell Fire; wherein he will abide eternally forever."
SAHIH BUKHARI VOLUME 7, BOOK 71, NUMBER 670

Almighty Allah has said, " My Slave hurried to bring death upon himself so I have forbidden him to enter Paradise."
SAHIH BUKHARI, VOLUME 4, BOOK 56, NUMBER 669

Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) has said, " A man may do the deeds of the people of Hell Fire while in fact he is one of the people of Paradise. And he may do the deeds of the people of Paradise while he belongs to the people of Hell Fire; and verily the rewards of the deeds are decided by the last actions (deeds). "
SAHIH BUKHARI, VOLUME 8, BOOK 77, NUMBER 604

So instead of committing suicide killing yourself, killing innocent people, men, women and children and remaining in HELL for eternity, know that there is another way - WAY TO PARADISE.

Shaykh Al-Albani (RA) on permissability & conditons of Suicide Operations!

Asslamo Allaikum,

In Saheeh Mawaarid ath-Thimaan for ash-Sheikh al-Albaani, (published after his death) 'alayhi rahmatullah, he says in volume two, page 119, after explaining the popular hadeeth of Abi Ayoob, regarding the saying of Allah tabaraka wa ta'ala: walaa tulqoo bi aydiykum ilat-tahlukah, he said, paraphrasing:

"And in this popular story is evidence for what is known today as 'suicide operations', which some of the youth of Islaam go about doing to the enemies of Allah, but for this act [to be permissible] are certain conditions, and they are: For this action to be solely done for the face of Allah and to give victory to the religion of Allah, not for showing off, or reputation, or bravery, or being depressed from life".

In A other statement he said this
Shaykh Albaani said:

That is not considered Suicide, Suicide is when a Muslim kills himself to be saved from his miserable life or something similar, as far as what you are asking about, that is Jihaad for the sake of Allah, but we must consider that this action cannot be done individually without to designate somebody as an Amir who can assess if it will be beneficial for Islam and Muslims, and if the Amir decides that to lose that mujahid is more beneficial than to keep him, especially if he is going to inflict damage on the enemy, then the opinion of that Amir is binding and even if the man is unhappy with that, he must obey him... [Shaykh Albaani continues on to say] Suicide is one of the biggest muharramaat, it is when someone dies because he want to end his dunya..., as for in the Jihad it is not Suicide, the way the Sahabah [RA] used to fight big numbers of the enemy by themselves.

:salam2:

The link you put totally contradicts what you just said.. You are Paraphrasing ?? Astaghfirullah.

This is what the Noble and wise Shaykh REALLY said on that Audio file:
http://www.fatwa-online.com/audio/other/oth010/0040828_2.rm

"We say Suicide operations, during our present times ALL of them are Ghayr Mashroo'ah (meaning they are not Allowed Islamically) and all of them are MUHARRAMAH (HARAM!!!). It could be the person who commits it could fall into the category of those who remain in hell-fire forever, or it could be that he doesnt remain in hell-fire forever.

To say that these suicide operations are a form of gaining closeness to Allah, then these people who fight for the path of their country, or the path of their land, then these suicide operations are Completely UnIslamic!.

Rather, I say today, What is Islamic reality today is not the reality as we would wish by some of the emotional Muslims (mutahamissin). Today there is no jihad in any of the Islamic lands totally (itlaqan). But, there is fighting there is a lot of fighting in some of the lands, as for jihad.. it has to be under the Islamic Leader and Islamic Law) . From these rules the soldier does not do things on his own will. HE does not make his own judgements. His own evaluations. But, he has to obey the commands of his Leader. He should not be aiding the General, but the Khalifah of the Muslims.

We know how fighting was in the Past, it used to be with swords, spears. And this fighting, in those days would resemble suicide. For example, when you get one soldier facing several soldiers from the enemy polytheist army and he attacks them from the right and the left. . and there is little chance of him surviving this. We say about this, that in one way it is allowed and in another it is not allowed.

If the Leader of the army of the Muslims at that time has allowed them to do that, then he is allowed to do that. But, if he decides to do this by himself, then it is not allowed because it is so dangerous. The result might be that he loses.

Except if the (Hakim) Islamic Ruler or the (Khalifa) Caliph of the Muslims says. Because, the leader of the Muslims has to take into account the welfare of his people. The khalifa of the Muslims should try to understand the situation as best of possible. He would understand when it is required for 100 Muslim soldiers to fight 1000 of the Mushriks.. and less than that and more than that and he calculates how many of them will perish, i.e. 10s of them will die etc. but he will know the end result will be victory for the Muslims."

Having met and known the students (some of whom are Palestinian) of Shaykh Albani (rahimahullah) , I know that He was definitely against Suicide bombing and would advise our brothers in Palestine on best way to gain their freedom.

Also our blessed Shaykh said:

"We support EVERYONE who calls for the refutation of the one who comes out in opposition against the Rulers, and those who encourage the Muslims to come out [in opposition] against the Rulers."
(Fataawaa al-'Ulamaa'il-Akaabir p.97)

As you know those who call for rebellion and taking up arms against the Rulers, who then go into takfir of the rulers and many ordinary Muslims may work for them, are incorrect and are following in the footsteps of the Khawarij. It is what has led to the fitnah in places like Algeria (where women and kids were killed in villages.) and the extremism we seen in Yemen, Saudia and in Iraq where our Muslim brothers and sisters are being attacked more by the takfiris then by the Kuffar soldiers..

- None of the Kibaar Ulema', the Great Scholars of Ahlus Sunnah allowed suicide bombing, acts of terrorism or any sort of unjust Revenge attacks that were aimed at civillians. Also, none of the Scholars of the Salaf (Muslim predecessors) said such things. "Martydom" operations are something new, these first appeared by the Communists in places like Sri Lanka and LEBANON. Yes, Lebanon and Palestine had many ATHEIST Communists such as the PLO AND the PFLP. Also, the Zionist Jews used to commit acts of terrorism such as Car bombings. There is absolutely no doubt Historically who came up with these ideas and agendas. There are many other things that are even more damaging to some of the more popular Islamic groups in the Middle East, which however we wont say as a lot of people just wont understand.. Such as they being funded and initially being setup by Israel !

We wish for the Palestinians and many of our Other Muslim brothers and sisters around the world, to be victorious against the oppressors and enemies and regain all their lands. But it must be done in the correct way. The Muslims have been in much worse situations than we are in today. There is nothing unique about this situation. However, without real Islamic education and adherance to the Quran and Sunnah, respect for the Shari'ah and doing things according to the original teachings we will never succeed. - Who is better at making us succeed than our Lord - Allah? Nobody. Even if we we continue to have the worst and poorly equiped armies and our enemies have greater armies, as long as we stick to our Deen properly, i.e. believe in Tawheed and worship Allah alone without associating any partners with him, and adhere to the Sunnah of his beloved Messenger :saw:, we will succeed. This is the Promise of Allah.

Those who say otherwise, simply lack this Iman and continue to think based on emotions and on the philosophies and rhetorics of the ignorant Callers. Not based upon the Quran and Sunnah with the understanding and wisdom of the Salaf-us Salih (Pious Predecessors)

- Shaykh Albani's students are alive today, Shaykh Salim Hilali, Shaykh Ali Al Halabi, Shaykh Mashur Hassan, Shaykh Muhammad Musa Nasr, Shaykh Hussein al Awaysha... - None of them are with this.

SECOND. Which of the Ulema' spoke out and critisised Shaykh Albani on this thing. Where are the refutations ? for they would NEVER remain silent. This is the characteristic of the Saved Sect. The Prophet :saw: said, "My ummah will never unite upon falsehood". The meaning of Ummah here means the ULEMA'.

wasalam.
