Tips to gain kusyu' in Salat

In the name of Allah, the most gracious the most merciful.

I read this in a book and i thought i'd share it with everyone.

Bahauddin Nakshiband was once asked:

"How can a slave gain pious reverence(kusyu') during the prayer?" He answered:

"There are four conditions:

1. His provision must be lawful.

2. He must distance himself from heedlessness while performing ablution.

3. He must realise his presence (before Allah) with the first takbir (Allahuakbar).

4. He must never forget Allah outside of prayer. That is, his state of presence, tranquility and abstaining from sin must continue after his prayer ended." (In general, his state outside and inside of prayer should be the same)

Thank you for that information. It was very helpful as a reminder. As I read your post and came to the words "reverence(kusyu')" and "the first takbir (Allahuakbar)" I realize that many of the concepts which I know in Islam, I know in Arabic without English translation. This is good because it means that I am starting to think in Arabic a little. That is what happen with me when I was immersed in Spanish, gradually, my thoughts were in Spanish, and, eventually, I would have to signal for an English Speaker to stop for a moment so that I could "switch" my brain over to English. I actually had trouble processing English when I was "in Spanish Mode."
